Push off of the public boat launch in Brunswick Maine for a short 3/4 of a mile to an island retreat. On your trip out, see bald eagles and osprey diving for fish, hear the slap of a beaver tail and the chuckling of the squirrels as you set foot on your island. You'll feel like you're miles away from everything but you're still in the middle of Maines beautiful Midcoast region. We have added some new features in 2019; a waterproof screen house is set up at the location. The screen house has a picnic table and a small propane BBQ that takes the 1 pound cans. There is also a 12 x 12 tent for your use.
Canoe Merrymeeting Bay - the largest Estuary on the east coast. If you have a water dog, bring the buoy, a tired dog is a happy dog. At the end of a day paddling, relax by the fire and hear the rustling of the leaves overhead. You might even see deer on occasion. If you want to day trip or lunch out, Brunswick features dozens of great restaurants and shops.

There are few places quite as incredible as this! Staying on a private island was a real treat, and with the many accommodations provided by our host, we did so in complete comfort! Ask Jim, the host, to add an hour of outdoor skill training to your weekend visit, as he's a registered maine guide! There are numerous places to set up a tent, and you have the option of canoeing, bringing your own kayaks or small skiff, or talking with Jim about options for his assistance getting out to the island! Even opt to take the train up the coast, where he will pick you up! There's tons of paddling options, and we listened to multiple critters as we fell asleep. The comfort of having a host with such experience allowed us to feel as though we were having a private retreat, and it was amazing!

Hosts were absolutely wonderful! Very accommodating and very friendly. We had some trouble both with traffic (we were late) and weather during our trip, but Jim was very flexible and helpful. Our dog loved having the ability to run free on the island, and we had a really lovely time taking the canoe out on the river. Thank you!

We had a great time on Cornish Island. Jim and his wife were incredibly helpful. There is plenty of space to set up tents, and it was nice and convenient having a large screen tent and picnic table already there, along with a propane BBQ. We had so much fun, and we’ll definitely return!

Canoe or kayak paradise. My girlfriend, dog, and I spent two great days hanging out in our canoe exploring and swimming around Cornish Island. It is a tidal area and the crystal clear water is about 12 inches deep all around the island at low tide. It is mostly freshwater around the island. Tons of cool places to explore in kayak or canoe.
Campsite was very comfortable with screened in area for cooking and eating, large fire pits, pit toilet, and plenty of firewood and water provided. There is also a sizable tent on the premises with cord inside. We brought an air mattress that fit inside the tent easily, so it was quite comfortable.
It was our first time so I was slightly nervous about directions, but Jim met me at the launch spot and sent me on my way with a map (easy to find) and even some delicious muffins from his wife. Highly recommend, we will return for sure.

Thank you very much for the wonderful review Terence. (Sorry I'm late responding). Hoping to see you this year and remember, our site can take 10 campers, so introduce Cornish Island to your friends!
This site exceeded all expectations. The host goes above and beyond. There was more than enough fire wood provided. Bottled water is provided on site with a tent and screen house already set up.

Thank you for your great review Christopher! Happy you enjoyed your stay.
This site and experience exceeded our expectations. We rented the host’s canoes and were able to fit multiple coolers, camping gear, and bags, and safely made it to the island. The island was equipped with everything we needed to cook, clean, use the facilities, and sleep! One of my favorite parts - besides being in the boat - was sitting on the dock and staring up at the night sky; the stars were amazing. I could go on for pages about how fun this weekend was, but you have to go see for yourself! I’ve already recommended the site to friends!

Thank you very much for your glowing review Stephanie. Jim and I are always happy when someone enjoys our island as much as we do! Hope to see you again!
Had a great time on the private island. Plenty of space to spread out and had fun canoeing to and from. The tents, fire pits, and firewood were a huge bonus. Super dog friendly. We highly recommend this spot!

Thank you for your review Arthur and yes, a tired dog is a happy dog! Happy everyone had a great time.
This campsite has everything you need! Just pack your food and sleeping bags! James and Kris met us at the boat ramp and helped us load our canoe, gave us directions, fishing tips and a history and were very sweet and informative. The site is gorgeous and very open. There are all kinds of tools for cooking - grates, spatulas etc. there’s a bin with goodies from past campers (bug spray, snacks, games), a trash and recycling bin, benches, chairs, a large screen house and tent, outhouse, kindling, forestarters and wood! We swam from the dock and canoed all around. The river is beautiful and clear and has a sandy bottom. There is cell service on the island. This trip was well worth the money and offers so much! Gorgeous and highly recommended!

Thank you for the great review Erin! We are happy you enjoyed the Island and hope to see you again!
What a lovely spot! Jim and Kris are great hosts, really committed to ensuring you have a good visit, and have thoughtfully outfitted the site with everything needed. There is some highway noise, but you get used to it. Canoeing, campfires and bald eagle sightings - so cool. Bring your hammock if you have one, there are a couple well-positioned trees that are great for reading / watching the river!

Thank you Caitrin. As a camper with multiple Hipcamp experiences, we appreciate you review and your feedback. We hope to host you again!
