20 acres hosted by Linda H.

Yaya has considered herself the guardian of Beyond Yonder Mountain Farm for 24 years and was a local for some time before that. Located near Hazard and Hyden, KY, this 20 plus or minus acres rustic land has served as a homestead, a getaway, and a place for retreat and commune with friends. Yaya’s fascination with living simply off the land led her to Beyond Yonder, and her desire to share and learn from other like-minded individuals inspired her to create the Wild Yayas Women’s Retreat and Mountain Herb Festival. Mountain Herb has met yearly since fall 2001.“ As far as living situation, the land includes a rustic one-bedroom cabin with multiple kitchens and attic, electricity, garbage and landline phone service, Dish TV and Dish Net, drilled well, fire pit, outdoor shower, outhouses with composting toilets, and what Heller calls “the Taj Mahal of chicken coops”. There are miles of four wheeler trails. Access to Beyond Yonder is by 2 to 3 miles of gravel roads and is 18 miles to Hazard, Ky. and 15 miles to Hyden, Ky. You are 41 miles to I-75. Land features include a pond with cattails, 5-7 acres of grass area surrounded by woodland, and neighborly visits from turkeys, deer, and the occasional bear.

Beyond Yonder Camping
This place is pure magic 💫
Linda is an incredible host, and her property is breathtaking. The giant forest magnolias are so beautiful, it reminded my daughter's of the rainforest. They caught all kinds of neat bugs and even a lizard! I felt so at home. Every day was a new adventure, there is so much to explore! Stop for your groceries and ice before you get close because it's a good half hour drive to the closest gas station and much farther to a grocery store. Sometimes going out is part of the fun though! Linda is so great with children and has a heart of gold. This place is magical. I've never in my life saw so many stars in the sky! You can see the milkyway right above her properties. I got a neck cramp staring up for so long! 😜 It's wild because I thought the sky could only look so clear in the mapped places with the least light pollution. Nope. You can definitely enjoy an incredible sky view without driving out west or way up into Michigan. I would recommend this place a million times over and plan to return again with more family. My children have now adopted Linda as their grandmother. 🥰

Beyond Yonder Camping
The best camp site in Kentucky!
This was our second time staying at this hip camp site. We are obsessed with it, and we absolutely love Yaya (Linda)! The stars from her property are more stunning than I’ve seen anywhere else in my life. We brought more friends this time and had a blast. Our kids love going to the lake and jumping off the big rock! It is a great place to detach from work, internet, and busyness. Really got to spend time with my family and the Lord.

Beyond Yonder Camping
a very special place and host
This is a beautiful, magical place. Linda was so helpful and kind. I will definitely return! She also provided a table for us to use at our site for food prep. The sites are quite private from each other so it was easy to social distance while here. The hilly, gravel roads coming in were a bit of a struggle for a small car, but we made it :)

Beyond Yonder Camping
The Most Wonderful Time.
Our trip to Beyond Yonder was a last minute decision. We needed a quick getaway (the weather was to be perfect) and all the State Parks were already booked. In the process, we ended up discovering Hipcamp and Beyond Yonder. Beyond Yonder exceeded our expectations. We were able to be alone in the middle of nowhere and we had the sweetest host we could ever imagine; YaYa. Driving to YaYa’s home on the gravel roads can be a bit intimidating, but it is not as bad as it appears. We had no issues getting there or leaving; it only added to the excitement. YaYa was so sweet and so gracious. She provided us options on where we could set up camp and even offered us a table and chairs and more if we wanted. We even learned a lot of interesting facts. She was a joy to be around. We had a wonderful time exploring areas of the property and simply relaxing and basking in the sun. There’s even a Lake nearby where you can hike or drive to go swimming (which we did check out on our way out). Only wish we had more time.

Beyond Yonder Camping
SUCH an amazing experience!
Wow! This was the best, most relaxing camping trip of my life! There is no need to leave Yaya’s property once you’re there. All the hiking and swimming is just minutes away. My kids and I walked down to her parents well where we drew the most pure, delicious water. When will we get that opportunity again?! The kids will remember it forever. Yaya and every member of our family were fast friends. She is an amazing story-teller and such an interesting woman with a kind heart.. She has a unique way of owning all of her femininity and her independence that was inspiring. The landscape is full of edible plants and herbs she has lovingly cared for. And her chickens live in chicken heaven! The most hooked-up chicken coop I have ever seen. Her artistic touches are all over every part of her property, down to the outhouses where colorful paint, sparkles, and glitter celebrate the beauty of being so immersed in nature. Yes, even the toilets gave me joy! The composting toilets had no odor at all (coming from a porta-potty hater), were very close by and clean. Yaya made us feel so welcome while we were there. She truly opened her property to us. While we enjoyed all of our time visiting as a family and getting to know her, she only was in such contact because we kept drawing her in. She was very respectful of our privacy and I’m sure that she would interact with you as much or as little as you’d like. Yaya seemed to enjoy our company, but is very socially aware and seems to want, over all, for her guests to have the experience they were looking for. I could write a book! I do hope you’ll bring your favorite people and love Yaya’s place as much as we did.
