Come experience the intoxicating beauty and peace of Summer Shoals. Wake to the sound of the rushing waters, rise early to enjoy the sunrise over the river with a cup of campfire coffee in hand. Allow the river to wash away the stress of urban living as you bask in the feelings of peace and tranquility. Relax, as relaxation was meant to be. A splash in the river could mean a few deer have come out of the shadows of the forest to play and drink of the cool water, or perhaps that splash is one of our local eagles grabbing breakfast in the morning fog. The Daniel Boone offers 708,000 acres amazing hiking within walking distance of your campsite! Our property offer creekside, riverside or mountain backwoods campsite locations. Come experience being surrounded by nature. The shallow and crisp water of the Shoals provides an ideal smallmouth habitat. The soothing sound of the rapids will lull you to sleep as you relax on the bank near a flickering fire. We are nestled away within the Daniel Boone National Forest, approximately 13 miles upriver of the breathtaking Cumberland Falls State Park. Come enjoy a primitive camping experience you will not soon forget. There is also a Mennonite vegetable/baked good farm up the street for tasty pies, breads and in season vegetables. A custom butcher about 5 miles up the road can provide your campfire steaks and burgers. Bagged ice and firewood are available onsite and locally. Gathering of dead firewood is always permitted and encouraged. Free fire rings and cooking grates provided. RATES 15.00 PER PERSON, per night to tent camp.. To encourage a quality family camping experience children 12 and under camp with their parents at NO CHARGE. Just make sure to indicate your children's ages when you register. Happy camping!

We loved our stay with Jim and Lora. We were looking for a quiet, relaxing break from our daily lives - and Summer Shoals was the perfect spot to clear our minds and enjoy nature. Jim and Lora were lovely hosts and went out of their way to make sure our stay was absolutely perfect, from providing us with dry firewood to giving us an extended personal tour of the property (we saw a tortoise snacking on a mushroom!). If you’re looking a quiet welcoming retreat on the river and also have the opportunity to hike in beautiful Appalachia, with creeks and woods, this is the place for you.

I still have a smile on my face from our experience here! Jim and Lora was amazing. They met us at the front and took us around on a wonderful tour of their property and helped us choose a site and got us all set up. My daughter's and I enjoyed chatting on the back porch with Lora while the boys fished. Then this morning as we got caught in the pouring rain this couple outdid themselves in hospitality. If you stay here you will not be disappointed. I can wait to follow their journey and see what they continue to do here. Can't wait to make it back!!

We really struck gold with Summer Shoals Retreat when my girlfriend and I went camping there for a couple of days. For starters, Jim and Lora were some of the nicest hosts I have ever had the chance to meet as they were so attentive to our needs while also making sure that the campsite was everything we expected. The entire campsite was clean and maintained. The bathrooms were even very clean and welcoming which was one of my concerns. Jim gave us an ATV tour of the 80 acres campsite just outside the Daniel Boone National Forest, and I must say the property is amazing. The trails on the site are as beautiful as you can imagine, almost as they've been untouched. Jim gave us firewood to use for our camp and clear directions to a nearby Walmart. Our experience was great and I would definitely recommend this site to anyone who wants to see Kentucky.

It was nice to meet the two of you. Im glad you enjoyed your secluded location. Sorry about the heat it was so hot. We would love to see you again when the cooler fall tempertures arrive. We have opened a nice little trail down to the waters edge near where you camped. We are clearing the brush off the banks a bit at a time. Have a great summer. Jim&Lora

This place was absolutely amazing and exceeded our expectations. We cant wait to see what they do with the place over the next few years. It was so nice to meet you and hope you can stay longer next time. As feedback has requested we were able to open a nice river access area and plan a shelterhouse and activity area in the spring. Enjoy horse shoes in the shade, a little badminton, or volleyball if the mood strikes you. Have a wonderful fall and dont forget the trails up into the Daniel Boone we are expecting beautiful colors again this fall.

Jim & Lora were excellent hosts with quick and responsive communication. The site was clean and well-maintained. There was free fire wood, on-site games, wifi near their house, and even ice at very low cost. It was a relaxing weekend outdoors next to the river. Would camp here again!
