Started as a retirement experiment, Rockcastle Riverside is a story told of music and family. We have almost 200 acres of beautiful country surrounded by the Daniel Boone National Forest in Rockcastle County. With a mile of river to swim, kayak, and fish and enchanted forest trails to hike, climb, or play, we have all of the best Kentucky has to offer! We have more established sites with fire rings, or you can find a place off the beaten path for more privacy, if you choose. The riverside is perfect for hammock camping, too. We love music and often host bands on the weekends. We rent kayaks and canoes on site, as well. While there are almost 200 acres to escape into, on any fine night, the stage sits wit a drum kit and the will to make music within the Daniel Boone National Forest. Come play, come get away....we have it ALL! We have a little of something for everyone!

Rockcastle Riverside Primitive Camp

Secluded sites available!

We stayed at one of the primitive campsites in the woodsy area across the street from the main campsite. Staying in late March, we were able to have the whole campground to ourselves which was awesome for us and our reactive dogs. About .5 to 1 hour drive to a lot of great hiking trails. The grounds we stayed at did not have a bathroom or any trash cans so we just needed to drive over to the campground when needed but this wasn’t a huge deal. The main bathroom with the shower was spacious and not extremely clean but sort of what you’d expect of a campground bathroom. The shower had hot water and good water pressure. Everyone was super nice and helpful. We didn’t even book until after we arrived because we wanted to make sure the site would be a good fit for us and Jessica actually talked with us to find the right fit for us and our pups. We’d definitely come back and stay here again.

We had a nice overnight stay! Beautiful secluded area to walk by the river. The bathhouse was closed when we were there. We sadly got there after dark which is never ideal but backing into our site was still no issue at all. There is plenty of space even with a big rig. The road coming in was being repaired take it slow and it’s no issue.
