Primitve camping at its best.
It was a nice camp site, primitive: like I expected. If you have a family or a large group that wants to camp. There are several options. you have a large sunny field, a hidden away wooded area, or you can choose a shelter house/RV spot (it has electric). I think one other site had electric. You can explore the river (river was dry when we were there) or walk a short trail. There was a little dog running around. It was marking his spot on my tent, my screen house, my cooler and box of stuff I had sitting on the ground. That really soured me right off the bat. Now for primitive camping, Steve made sure we had wood for the fire. we were prepared for a cold evening as this was mid October and the first night was COLD. As the scouts moto goes be prepared for weather. We had our cars parked at the Cove entrance and it blocked the line of site to other sites.
We had a great night of camping at Hones Pointe. Our spot was beautiful, right by the creek which meets up with the river. So picturesque and the grounds were very well maintined with flowers and landscaping. There were a lot of nice touches such as electrical outlets and lighting at our site (not sure if all sites have that). Nice trails and bridges on our site, too. Firewood was delivered right to our fire pit with in mintues of requesting more. The only thing I could have wished for would have been a full bathroom (it was port-a-potty).
Tranquil lovely peaceful
Hones Pointe was a tranquil, quaint, peaceful, clean, & quiet place with a beautiful well maintained/manicured park oasis feel with special touches throughout the site. It had wind chimes, lovely flowers, cute little fun camp signs, 2 bridges, & pretty garden decorations all in our site which I've never seen in our travels. It even has many outdoor games to enjoy for the whole family & a nice river bed to cool off & play in. The birds were so pleasant to hear & see as well as the feeders sitting in the various nice chairs all over to view the amazing sceneries surrounding the whole camp. Everything here is so well thought out & placed so thoughtfully that you would have thought it was done by professionals & for you personally. I took lots of wonderful pictures to remind us of this experience.
My husband & I were blessed to find this treasure site & having Steve as the most kindest owner/host you could ever find, has a great heart & makes you feel right at home as well as being humble, very accommodating opening up this private land to campers. He has done a fantastic job putting this tucked away gem together. So glad we found it. We will definitely stay here again when in the area & highly recommended you stay at this one of a kind special campground. It has so much history, charm, down home appeal that I didn't want to leave & you probably won't either. Our 1st Kentucky camping experience was the best because of this site & Steve.
We booked this site with photography in mind during our stay. The place is very well secluded and peaceful. Steve was very nice and met us as we arrived with his little pup.
Relaxing fun off the beaten path!
Really pretty spot beside a stream with so many fun things to do! We had a blast playing tether ball and lounging in the “hillbilly hot tub.” The site was beautifully maintained!
Made a wise, informed decision
Great primitive campsite. My greatgrandaughters loved it, even though it was their first time sleeping outdoors in a tent. Harvested walnuts, saw deer, heard a pack of coyotes in the distance. Oh yes, did I mention since there was no air or light pollution in the sky, we couls see a bazillion stars? Great experience, needed another day (or two). lol
