Happy New Year from Hipcamp! This year, make a resolution you will actually want to keep: spending more time outside. For a little inspiration, we’ve pulled together some of our favorite Hipcamps from all over the country to add to your 2017 Camping Bucket List. In no particular order… let us begin:

Eagle’s Nest Treehouse Farmstay

Salmon Creek Ranch, Bodega Bay, California

We’ve been drooling over this treehouse since it re-opened at the end of 2016. Nestled in a redwood forest, on a 400-acre working ranch, a stone’s throw away from the California coast… must we say anymore? This is definitely on the more pricey end for Hipcamps, but it is a treat, to say the least.

It’s time to make your computer screensaver the backdrop of your real life. For just $35 a night, pitch your tent along 16-acres of private land with river access and stunning views of Mt. Index. This property is just about an hour from Seattle… Pacific Northwest road trip anyone?

Whiskey Ranch

Tassajara, California

 

Talk about ~camp vibes~ Host Albrecht kindly rents out his Burning Man glamper for you to enjoy on his ranch that has been in his family since 1884. Fun fact: the ranch grows wheat for whiskey that used at a local distillery & Albrecht is planning to have his own distillery on-site in the near future.

The Sunset Treehouse

Hermann, Missouri

 

Midwesterners! The view is definitely better from the Sunset treehouse. Smack between Kansas City and St. Louis, this treehouse is located near the historic town of Hermann, MO and is not too far off of I-70, which cuts across a great deal of the country if you’re planning a road trip that takes you across the Great Plains.

Sandbar Camp North

Milton, Florida

 

This is primitive Florida camping at its finest. A short hike through cypress and pine forests will lead you right to the white sandy beach by Coldwater Creek, a large, private sandbar that can host to up to 20 campers.

Dom-i-cile

Hesperus, Colorado

 

Let’s look at this Hipcamp by numbers: a 20-foot diameter geodesic dome, built into the hillside beneath a 100-foot cliff (overlooking the La Plata River), situated on a patented mining claim, 10-acres of rugged rock cliffs, talus slopes, steep inclines, aspen forests and large ponderosa pines, on secluded private property completed surrounded by the San Juan National Forest, 5 miles north of US Hwy 160, 11.5 miles west of Durango. Boom. See ya there.

Tippecanoe Riverside

Warsaw, Indiana

 

Yep. This is a kayak/canoe/SUP-in only campsite. For a private riverside campsite, camping “as nature intended” is definitely worth the extra work to get there.

Camp Nylen Group Camping

Joshua Tree, California

 

If you and your buds haven’t made the spiritual journey out to Joshua Tree yet, you gotta make the trek this year. (Camp Nylen can host 20 of your friends!) Joshua Tree is an eerily magical place. Both luckily and unluckily, it is well-loved and well-visited by many campers and adventurers throughout the year. As a result, finding a campsite, especially for a large group, is notoriously difficult within the park. Ditch the difficulty and check out the private listings we have waiting for you right outside! Plus, who likes a noisy, crowded campground anyways?

Frog Pond

Skokomish Valley, Washington

 

We’re feeling some serious PNW vibes from this 20-acre slice of private land not too far from the entrance to Olympic National Park. There are a couple different sites on the property, but our favorite is the Frog Pond which has it’s own private little pond. Don’t worry, though—you can get private riverside access from any of the amazing site options.

Holy Cross Refugio Tent Sites and Cabin

Minturn, Colorado

 

Scandinavian design meets the Colorado mountains at this Holy Cross Wilderness campout. This winter, make this cabin your basecamp and ski literally right outside your door. Come spring, you can choose from numerous tent spots and have access to world-class hiking and climbing, again right outside your tent flap.

Tir Na N Og Farm Camp

Pownal, Maine

 

Campout (or rent a cabin!) on a beautiful 40-acre farm in Maine with some great hiking and exploring nearby at Bradbury State Park. Extra points if you learn some farm-insights from hosts Holly and Sue.

Boot Mesa

Monument Valley Overlook, Arizona

 

If you haven’t been to the American Southwest, you’re missing out on some of the most ruggedly beautiful and unique terrain on the whole damn planet. You could spend your whole life exploring this part of the country and it will never get old. Ask host Mark to set you up with a Navajo guided trail ride through the backcountry and get going!

Redwood Ranch

Three Rivers, California

 

Planning a big birthday bash, family reunion, or corporate retreat? Or maybe you’re tying the knot or just trying to get together with a big group of friends. Either way, you can rent out this whole 190-acre ranch. River frontage and world class swimming holes included (nope, we are not teasing you with that waterfall pic). And talk about those views. Oh, we forgot to mention there’s a sauna, too.

High Desert Campout

Mack, Colorado

 

The High Desert Campout is the perfect layover if you’re heading from Colorado into Utah. This perch is located 3-miles off of I-70, which takes you from Denver straight to adventure-mecca Moab. It is only $25 a night for all of those American West desert feels. Sorry to our beloved Prius-owners, this site is SUV access only.

Earthseed Smoky Mt. Sanctuary

Outside of Asheville, North Carolina

 

If you’re looking to find some inner peace this New Year, venture out to the Butterfly Farm Sanctuary, a lush and tranquil 22-acre property along a river in the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina that is a vegetarian-only refuge for those looking “to rest, reflect, re-energize, heal, create, vision, dream, or any combination of the above.” Sign us up!

Forest Camping

There are a number of primitive campsites at Maple Creek Ranch spread around the 500-acre property that is primed for hammock-sleeping (demonstrated above). Plus, you gotta love a private pond with a rowboat!

Skagit Creekside Camp

Mount Vernon, Washington

 

How can you say no to your own private swimming hole? This northwest Washington getaway is just along the Scenic Route 9 which is a beautiful drive or ride up into Canada. Pro-tip: hit up the Saturday Farmer’s Market run by the Skagit Valley Co-op in nearby Mount Vernon before, during or after your trip.

The Desert Pensione

Joshua Tree, California

 

Not a bad looking spot to spend the night, eh? This quaint little cabin is right outside of Joshua Tree National Park and has your name all over it! Take a look at the bed set up inside… talk about dreamy!

Tee-Pee Hollow

Garden Valley, California

 

This is a very cool tee-pee with an even cooler swimming hole + waterfall combo a short walk (5 minutes or so) away from your lodging. Host Rachael’s land borders the beginning of National Forest land that goes all the way up to Lake Tahoe, which means you have miles and of miles of multi-use trails, right in her backyard for your endless enjoyment. Let’s get exploring!

Camp Colorado River

“Serene swimming, cozy camping and beautiful views away you!” Just about an hour outside of Austin, you can also rent canoes here to further explore this beautiful stretch of the mighty Colorado River. Don’t forget your fishing rods!

The Rose Garden

Altoona, Washington

 

Wake up and smell the roses! This beautifully maintained property is along the Columbia River Gorge, right before it feeds out into the majestic Pacific Ocean. Just two hours from Portland and three from Seattle!

Sky Ranch

Mariposa, California

 

Nothing like a little porch meditations while taking in some Yosemite views. This property is only an hour outside of the park and is a serene basecamp to any Yosemite trip. Check out some other Hipcamps near California’s favorite NPS and never fight for a first-come, first-serve spots at a crowded campsite again.

Apparently, there are major “Jurassic vibes” when exploring the nearby Rainbow River.

Private Beach Farm

Goleta, California

 

Finally a greenhouse with a wine bar you can actually camp in! This beach-side farm is just north of Santa Barbara and has a cob pizza oven, private bath and shower, and private beach access… close to a famous private surf break. Yep, you read that right.

Shasta View Treehouse

Weed, California

 

This sweet little treehouse cabin is nestled on a serene private property with stunning views of Mt. Shasta. There are a blow-up mattress and kitchen supplies inside, but you’ll have to bring your own sleeping bag and food, of course. The best part? A hammock that hangs over a small creek right beside the structure. There may not be a more peaceful place to wake up in all of California.

The Water Tower Loft

Mendocino, California

 

Okay, this is a far cry away from traditional camping, but this water tower is a chic getaway near the Mendocino Coast, which means you’ve got access to loads of Californian nature. There’s a record player and a solid book collection to keep you occupied inside as well too.

The host at the Salvage Texas Outpost, Brad, has salvaged 43-acres of once desolate land and turned it into an adventurer’s paradise, primed with lots of space to hike, swim, meditate, exercise and relax. Choose from 7 tiny houses on the property and explore all that this incredible, sustainable project has to offer: mud baths, canoe trails, scamping spaces, and more!
