Psst…We’re creating a community-sourced cookbook! Why? Because food always tastes better when you’re camping. Always. Share your best ramen hacks, tastiest trail meals, and most resourceful car camping concoctions here. We’ll be compiling recipes over the next few months in anticipation of our cookbook launch where we’ll share what the Hipcamp community can cook up.
Light, cheap and quick—instant ramen is a staple meal for any camping trip. We asked Hipcampers on Instagram some of their best ramen hacks. Here’s what you said:
@quintonjmarchan
- soft boiled eggs, miso paste, green onion, and celery ?
@iseetyee
- adding all our grilled leftovers to the broth ???? +cheese
@natasha.beaulieu
- add peanut butter!
@kmhops
- Sriracha and ginger. Always.
@queenkatieanne
- Nori/kombu + miso paste + schichimi togarashi spices + soft boiled egg = “instant” ramen heaven.
@saragale
- Ramen, hard boiled egg, carrots and onions sautéed in coconut oil all pour over fresh spinach. I know what I’m having for lunch today.
@dgbeader
- Cooked in Trader Joe’s Ginger Miso broth, drizzled with toasted sesame oil, boiled eggs, sliced snap peas, mushrooms, topped with a sprinkling of black sesame seeds. ?
@sunflowermermai
- Basil! Sesame oil chives ???
@eiliabedilia
- My favorite tip is making a broth with ginger, garlic, turmeric and chicken broth. I add miso to it too and it’s the best for everyday or when you’re sick! If it’s for a cold, I add extra turmeric and I add lemongrass. Ramen is life! ?
@tayisgreen
- We take a soup(box, because it’s lighter) like minestrone or something hearty and throw ramen noodles in it to make it more filling!
@coryhymel
- Brussel sprouts, mushrooms, onions, jalapeños, and broccoli. Boil 4 cups of water. Add in veggies, add in single Ramen season packet. Boil for few minutes. Add in second season packet and noodles. Done.
@maddieolhoeft
- Add whatever you have in your fridge! Ramen is the savior of veggies right before they’re about to die a sad, lonely, rotted death
@dkgirouard
- Boil cut onions, chopped Napa cabbage and shaved carrots in the broth. Then add the noodles. ? Its so light but very filling!
@tammyescho
- Add all the crumbled bits just at the end before eating so you get a bit of crunch for texture!
@madisonemmaleth
- I did salmon and scallions in mine yesterday.
@cloud9stitching
- Skip the spice packet. Boil noodles w/ peanut butter and Thai curry paste. Add miso at end, after you take it off the burner. Thick spicy rich broth!
@drawmeafteryou
- stir fry in the castiron!! Just posted about the yummy ramen my boyfriend makes over the campfire!
@aquaticons
- Burn a jalapeño and sweat it, chop garlic onion carrot celery and add to boiling water. De-black the jalapeño, chop and add as well. Add season packet and then noodles. Add chopped green onion. Poach egg as you lower heat and then add a slice of American cheese on top with sesame seeds to top. Mix egg and cheese into broth
@theweekendguide
- Use the noodles only and add grated cheese, black pepper and lemon juice ?yum yum. Or what we used to do in high school – crush the dried noodles, add the spice packet and mix up for a crunchy salty snack. Weirdly good.
@melacuster
- yes! Sesame oil and a scrambled egg right before you turn off the heat.
