Hipcamps to Visit for Halloween Season

Hipcamping for HalloweenHipcamping for Halloween

Thrill-seekers, costume-aficionados, and candy-lovers: the time is nigh. Dust off your campfire ghost stories, practice your witchy cackle, and layer up for some extra goosebumps. From  remote cabins in the woods to haunted, historic campsites, there’s a Hipcamp to make all your Halloween nightmares come true (no matter your spook threshold). Some ideas:

Halloween Parade at Camp Owl Pine, California

Join in on some spirited Halloween fun at Camp Owl Pine’s Halloween Parade (10/31), then retreat back to your private spot in the woods for some spooky campfire stories. If you’re quiet enough, you may hear the hoot of the camp’s namesake!

Old Yella Dog Ranch Ghost Town , Nevada

Set within Vya, a ghost town harkening back to the Wild West when travelers made their way along the historic Applegate-Lassen Emigrant Trail. Check out the town’s last remaining buildings — the Library and the Post Office — before enjoying its scenic views, horseback riding, wildlife watching, and many hiking and bicycling trails.

Maple Moon Farm, Maine

A quaint, cozy cabin set on a 1790s-era farm on more than 100 acres of Maine woods. Read a scary book by the fire, learn more about the farm’s maple sugaring business, take a hearth cooking class, pick blueberries, or simply summon any ghosts that might be lurking around the property. Enjoy complimentary continental breakfasts, campfires, and beautiful sunsets.

Bear Creek Farm & Ranch, Illinois

Set within 100 acres of a bucolic, working organic farm, this campsite has had a few chilling events. The home on the farm used to be a hotel in the 1920s where it’s rumored a patron passed away on the 2nd floor. The hosts say they sometimes hear music coming from that floor, as if from an old record player. Bonus: there’s a cemetery just a few miles away. Take comfort by the fire with a pet, friend, or loved one, and enjoy the farm’s seasonal produce (including artisanal, homemade bread & sweets), stunning views, and spectacular stargazing.

Cozie Nook Homestead, Massachusetts

At Cozie Nook Homestead, you can experience ultimate seclusion and silence among the changing fall leaves. With dark skies and bright stars, the conditions are perfect for stargazing. Oh, and ignore the glowing eyes peering at you from the trees, they’re just the local chipmunks checking out your snack situation. 😉
