Hipcampout Summer Series: Photography with Meg Haywood Sullivan

Our second Hipcampout went down in Joshua Tree a couple weekends ago and we couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. Despite the 105 degree heat, we hiked through Joshua Tree National Park, took photos at sunrise and sunset on the gorgeous land we were sleeping on, ate delicious food and sipped on some ice cold beverages provided by our awesome sponsors.

A big thanks goes out to Eddie Bauer, who makes this campout series possible. If you had the chance to attend, please make sure to show them love by tagging #LiveYourAdventure, and @eddiebauer on social media. In addition, they’re generous enough to provide tents for guests who need them to use for the event, as well as a special goodie bag to take home.

Photography workshop leader, Meg Haywood Sullivan enlightened us with an abundance of photography knowledge and there was no better place to soak it in than the surreal landscape of Joshua Tree.

Check out the images below to see what you can look forward to at future campouts and hopefully we’ll see you at the next one!

THANKS TO OUR RAD FRIENDS:

Special thanks to Madhouse Kitchen for the delicious food, and to Union Wine CoFort Point Beer, and Stumptown Coffee, for the tasty cold beverages, which were especially delicious in the hot desert heat.

Our sustainability partner, Klean Kanteen, hooked us up with bottles and cups to fill up the icy cold water kept cold by Coleman water jugs. Staying hydrated was crucial in the desert heat.

For many, Gillian Grogan’s live performance under the stars was a highlight of the weekend. Her music was gorgeous and we strongly encourage you to check her out.

Thanks to Lodge Cast Iron for the dutch ovens to cook with! Social Print Studio printed out good lookin’ schedules and the TCHO chocolate was enjoyed by all during a late night s’more session on Saturday night.

Join us for more camp vibes at our next campout. The theme is Arts & Craftsmanship and it will be hosted at Jug Handle Creek Farm in Mendocino, CA. Try your hand at a workshop on natural dyeing by one of the most important teachers in the American fiber arts field, Yoshiko Wada, who is single-handedly responsible for introducing the art of Japanese shibori dyeing to the U.S. Our craftsmanship workshop leader, Tonu Eagleton, is a master environmental woodcarver, with whom we’ll be completing a special woodworking class with (we’re keeping it a secret…!) on-site.

Photos taken by Hipcamp photographers: Ezekiel GonzalezJulian Bialowas, and Lisse Lundin.
