Springing into 2020! A Note From Alyssa

Now that we’re finally into the swing (and Spring!) of the new decade, I’d like to take a moment to reflect on Hipcamp, our inspiring community, and all we accomplished together in 2019.

2019 was an incredibly special year. We threw our first-ever Host Summit, connecting Hipcamp team members and Hosts from across the US to collaborate, learn about, and celebrate the powerful work American landowners are doing to expand access to the outdoors and steward their land. We partnered with Recreation.gov to show real-time federal campsite availability on our platform after years of grassroots organizing for open data standards in campsite reservations. We launched our first-ever mobile apps for iPhone and Android. We raised $25 million in Series B funding, led by Andressen Horowitz and its Cultural Leadership Fund, welcoming cultural icons and leaders such as Jay-Z and Will Smith into our community. We were profiled by the New Yorker. And we’re just getting started.

Hipcamp is all about people and the land, and I’m deeply grateful for the people who make Hipcamp. I feel beyond fortunate to build Hipcamp with such a talented, passionate, and dedicated community that believes deeply in our mission to get more people outside and make the planet a healthier, more regenerative, and connected place. It’s a team that includes not only Hosts, Hipcampers, and Hipcamp team members, but also all of our families, friends, and loved ones who support us in doing the hard, necessary work to expand access to nature, leveraging outdoor recreation to protect habitats and ecosystems.

The next decade will be a pivotal moment in our story. To bring our vision to life, we’ll need even more intrepid, imaginative people to join us in getting more people outside. We’re especially looking for landowners who are interested in sharing their land with outdoor enthusiasts. If that’s you, or someone you know, you can learn more about getting started here (and make sure to share your referral code with friends to earn $100 when a landowner books their first Hipcampers).

Thank you for making 2019 one for the ages, and for being such an important part of our community. I’m so excited to grow together in 2020 and beyond.
