Dear Hipcamp Hosts,
Thanksgiving has always been one of my favorite holidays. For my family, it is all about spending quality time together, enjoying my father’s cooking, going on long hikes (to burn up some of that amazing food), and taking time to reflect on our blessings. I believe that gratitude is a practice and, as with any practice, it gets stronger with time and awareness.
This Thanksgiving, I want to thank you, our Hosts. Without you, Hipcamp would simply not exist. You are the heart and soul of everything we do, and it is through your work and your land that we are able to offer evermore people access to nature.
As Hipcamp Hosts, you inspire us every day. Your impact in offering access to nature, restoring ecosystems, creating regenerative food systems, and revitalizing local, community-driven economies proves to us—and the world—that our core company value “leave it better” is possible at a planetary scale. Thank you.
The value Hipcamp brings to the world is a direct result of your dedication to offering beautiful Hipcamps where people can heal, connect with loved ones, reconnect with the awe-inspiring power of nature and remember what truly matters. Perhaps John Muir put it best when he said “Thousands of tired, nerve-shaken, over-civilized people are beginning to find out that going to the mountains is going home; that wildness is a necessity.” In our case, you’ve helped us get hundreds of thousands of people outside—250,000 and counting, in fact!
Thanksgiving is also an important moment to cultivate gratitude for our land’s original inhabitants. In the Bay Area, we live, work, love, and dream on the traditional homelands of the Coastal Miwok and Ohlone peoples. Much healing is needed, and I believe that in nature we can find crucial common ground on which this can happen. If you haven’t yet become familiar, I encourage you to learn more about whose homeland on which you live here.
Hipcamp started in the Bay Area, and our local community has been devastated over the past few weeks by fires. If you’re hosting Hipcampers this Thanksgiving, please know that we will be donating 100% of Hipcamp’s Thanksgiving profits to World Central Kitchen, a non-profit that sources all local ingredients to offer fresh, healthy, nourishing food to people impacted by these fires. In this small way we hope to do our part to help those in need this Thanksgiving.
Thank you for making Hipcamp a place to connect with the people and places that matter most. We couldn’t do this without you; you are the best partners we could hope for. On this Thanksgiving I am most grateful for you.
Happy Thanksgiving,
