Winter Camp at Walking Stick Farm

Iowa River Valley Adventures in Amana begin in their beautiful timber. The Amana Colonies in Eastern Iowa is one of the premier historical and cultural attractions in the midwest. It is located in the center of the Iowa River corridor, surrounded thousands of acres of relatively undisturbed timber, wetlands and other open spaces. Our goal is to introduce visitors to the natural wonders of the Iowa River Valley throughout the year. We offer guided hikes. Each walk or hike begins at 9 am or 1:00 pm on the first Saturday of that Month. We will meet at the Amana Trail parking lot for each event. Our goal is to provide you with an experience you may not have gotten on your own. Our relatively easy hikes are off the trail and into areas that most will not go. The area can be hilly but we tailor our hikes to our groups as they sign up so each hike will be a little different. The guided hikes are private and can be set up to meet your needs and interests. Feel free to contact us if you are interested in what we can do. One example of a spring hike is our creek creep. The trail we begin on is a relatively easy trail that can take you all the way to the Iowa River. However, we will leave the trail and hike into the woods and follow the hills down to the creek that feeds into the Iowa River. We will look for geological features, wildlife sign, even a historical find or two. We will follow the creek, in the creek. It will be wet but mud boots, hiking boots, old tennis shoes will be adequate. Dress for fun! We will spend about 1.5 to 2 hours hiking in/out of the creek. The trail is located just 15 minutes from Main Amana and the visitor center. Some Amana history, plant id and birding will be included.
