This was my first Hipcamp stay and I was very pleased.
The location was perfect for someone like me looking for a quick stopover during a long drive, and would also be perfect for someone visiting Council Bluffs. The Arrowhead Lodge is located in "suburbacountry" - a short drive from the highway, nice area for walking, houses nearby but also a farm with horses a few doors down. It's a short drive to restaurants/stores.
The lodge itself was clean, well appointed, cute. It's a single room with floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors and windows facing the woods. There is a porch, outdoor seating, and a small fire pit. It's a short walk to the host's house to reach the bathroom. I loved that there is a walk-in shower, because I recently injured my knee, There was plenty of hot water.
The host has a mini horse and a pygmy goat. The next-door-neighboor has several feral cats (beyond the host's control). So if your dog goes crazy when he/she sees those animals, this would not be a good place. My dogs are chill about those animals so it was not a problem - in fact very dog friendly for calm dogs since there are lots of places to walk one's dog. If you don't have a dog you could leave with one - the humane society is within a half mile walk, and when I passed there while walking my dogs there seemed to be plenty of available dogs. But don't worry, it's far enough away that you can't hear any barking dogs.
There were a few mosquitoes (it is near Mosquito Creek after all) so bring bug repellant if you plan to sit outside. Although there is some outdoor lighting, a flashlight will be handy for nighttime trips to the bathroom.
I heard crickets, raccoons, and an owl during the night. Since I love those sort of night noises, I thought that was a bonus.
I would highly recommend this host and the Arrowhead Lodge.
(The name makes me chuckle because there is a county park near my home has an "Arrowhead Lodge" large enough to host wedding receptions.)
Beautiful cottage with moody vintage decor. Super comfortable bed, very clean and functional space. Bathroom is in the main house, LOVED the “rain” shower head!! Rob was great and accommodating. I booked 2 hours before arrival and he had the place ready for us! Definitely will stay again if ever back in the area.
This place is great, cozy and romantic and private
Rob's lodge is GORGEOUS! the grass was a little soppy because storms had just rolled through, but Rob laid out planks to help us traverse the wettest parts of it. The space is more of a retreat than a mere landing place--we only stayed one night on a road trip, but I would happily stay longer. Thanks for sharing your beautiful place with us!
What a great hidden gem! We had a wonderful "staycation" here. A fun spot with lots of wildlife. Rob was a wonderful host, and the goats are so sweet!
Such a cool set up. you feel like youre staying in one of ernest hemingway's safari bungalos
Very cute and cozy location! Rob was a friendly and accommodating host. Although the location is in a backyard, the site was thoughtfully private (around the corner from the goats - we had so much fun watching them!) with the entrance facing a heavily wooded area. It really felt like we had our own private space. There was a fire pit and BBQ set-up available. The bathroom is a short trek up to the main house and accessible throughout the day.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and wished it had been for a leisurely trip instead of a rushed stop.
Rob's place was great. Well-appointed, rustic and cute. He had AC running on our arrival which was very welcomed! We loved saying hi to the goats and his puppy in the morning.
My boyfriend and I booked a last-minute overnight date night here. It's just as beautiful as the pictures if not more in person. The decorations and upkeep are so lovely and relaxing. Has all the stuff to cook a campsite meal and then head inside the cabin for games or whatever else you would like. Great for the price and space utilization! Would absolulty reccomend to anyone.
