The hike back into the campsite is an old cattle path from the Corris Farm. The Corris family settled this land in 1860s and is the second oldest farm in Lake County in existence. The 100 plus year old barn is standing on the south corner of Russell Rd with a new green roof. Their cattle grazed this area and the swamps to North that border the state lines. Learn more about this land: There is a very seclusive unique sight where you will have to hike back to camp in. It is important to plan to pack lightly for this sight and plan a 10 minute hike in. There is lots of nature, birding and old growth oaks. Fishing and kayaking are allowed on part of the property and nearby trail systems into Van Patten Woods.

Very safe and comfortable
It was great camping here! Tom had a campfire set up for us and introduced us to all of his farm animals. It was very comfortable and safe here. Super quiet as well. Definitely recommend!

Seclusive Nature Site
This was a great spot to stay the night on a roadtrip. Feels very secluded even though you’re so close to the highway. Tom was very friendly and provided a good pile of firewood to keep us going.

Bikepacking trip up the DRT
Nice secluded campsite in the woods with a great view of some open wetlands. We showed up at dusk so the mosquitoes were poised for attack, but the deep woods off kept them at bay while we setup. Once it was dark they completely went away and we were able to sit around the campfire and enjoy the beautiful evening. The firewood provided was nice and dry without a single pop or crack during the whole fire. We did hear a few passing trains and some traffic noise during the evening but nothing that negatively impacted our stay.
