Camping Near Trail of Tears
Very nice, secluded property. Right off the water so bug spray a must. Fresh water available but near the host family's house which is a distance from the campsites so best to bring what you need. Went for the eclipse, perfect location.

Camping Near Trail of Tears
This site was all I had hoped for the solar eclipse experience, and was gratified that it all checked out. It was spacious. There was tree cover and open skies in good measure. A pretty creek runs at the eastern edge that glows pink in the morning sun. Surprisingly little by way of mosquitoes at this time of the year (Aug 19-21)...plenty crickets :) Given the expansive fields, the campers were well spaced, and being one of the earliest to show up, we had a rather spacious spot to ourselves that helped with two teenagers in our group of five...we all could chill out as we pleased. The hosts should count as one of the major plus points of this campsite. Hospitable to a fault...Alexis, Luke and his dad kept in touch throughout the three days...several times a day...really helpful and cheerful...visiting all the campers and really taking care in a personal manner. The site is fairly remote yet connected. Nearest grocery store is a breezy 20 minutes drive through open skies and corn soyabean fields...theres the open skied Ohio river next door...One day we went out- a 30-40 minutes drive to the Garden of Gods- what a lovely little gem of a place full of inviting shapely sandstone rocks and sweeping views of the forest all around...then we drove to the floating diner E'Town for some local flavors including the catfish...then a leisurely drive to the Cave in Rock...a cool, massive hole in the limestone on Ohio...with refreshing breeze and a relaxed ambience ...then back to the campsite...
This trip was for the eclipse...but the camping experience became a memorable experience in and of itself!...
Just one note on the essentials: Theres no water and toilet here (yet)...It wasnt an issue for me and one of my children, it was an issue for my wife and partially for others.
One note for the lovely hosts- some of the campers kept talking and laughing loudly till late in the night...both nights we were there. Guess, a little consideration on the part of campers for fellow campers would be a good thing.

Terrific place to camp. Secluded, stunning location alongside the river with excellent camping options. The hosts were great, too, exceptionally friendly and very helpful. A little tricky to find at night, but Alexis guided us to the door and got us set up in no time. Wish I were still there.

The hosts were great. Just be prepared for poison ivy.
