Relaxing, exhilarating, too short
Fantastic place. Community is strong.
First time doing something like this
I will be back and I want to explore more opportunities. If you want to see what living on a farm is like and just have some peace and relaxation not far from the city and still in the country, this is the place for you.
Wonderful farm stay
The stay was great! They have such a cute little farm, with all the sights and animals you could ask for. They had goats, pigs, chickens, birds, horses, cats. Which all made for the perfect experience. Me, the girlfriend, and our Bengal wanted to get away for a day and this was perfect for it.
Mandy, made the experience seamless. Greeted us upon arrival and showed us around the property and where all the good stuff was. Showed us hiking and biking trails. The camper was great. Optimal space with anything you might need. Cookware, bug spray, utensils, bedding, fridge. Overall a great stay!
Chatty animals galore!!
We arrived late at night after days of rain so it was muddy but obviously well-maintained.
Easy to get to, and we just needed a safe place to stay overnight on our trip cross country.
Grateful for COVID-savvy distancing.
I didn't know what the farm grew/produced and asked by text about whether they had produce. They did not, but after we set up for the night one of the hosts arrived with a plate full of cut sweet bell peppers - such a kind gesture!
There is a Wallmart nearby enough to hear some of the loading trucks, but not the dominant vibe. You are definitely in-town.
Bullfrogs, roosters, and a talkative peacock were amusing early in the morning! If we had been able to stick around it would have been cool to visit with the farm animal menagerie they have there.
Was really nice to have a sink and fresh running water.
I bet it is really fun for kids to experience in the daytime.
Easily accessible rural haven
We arrived later than planned, just before dark and after a hard rain, so we didn't get to explore as much as we would have liked. The location is very convenient yet feels safe and private. We also appreciated the care taken to sanitize the bathroom, as we were traveling during the coronavirus pandemic.
Rather than stay in a hotel, we spent a night at Happy Trails Farm Resort on our drive across states. Mandy was welcoming, the amenities were just what we needed (running water, a clean porta potty with lights, and soft level ground), and we felt safe. If you're used to farm animal sounds, you'll feel right at home!
Our stay at Happy Trails was an absolute delight. Our kids had a great time exploring the space and interacting with the array of animals. Our hosts were warm and inviting, and the animals are clearly happy in their care. We watched a glorious sunset that night overlooking the canal. We left with lovely memories (and some delicious farm fresh eggs). We'd love to visit again!
Good spot to rest on our way by St Louis. When we first arrived at dusk, the mosquitoes were TERRIBLE but luckily they weren’t a problem in the morning. Our toddler loved the animals, especially the very friendly goats. A note for parents of littles that there are a lot of electric fences which we needed to pay close attention to. We never met the hosts, but Mandy was fairly responsive to messages on our arrival day. Be sure to pay attention to the photos on the page as that is what I was referred to when I asked for specifics. Overall, a good (not great) spot to camp for a night — fairly industrial area, but well kept and close to the highway.
