Plenty of privacy on a super safe stretch of land with the sweetest family!
You have plenty of options on where to set up camp with different levels of privacy depending on what side of the pond you want to be on. I was closest to the road yet farthest from the family home - in the shadiest spot to escape the summer heat. A fire pit and bench was provided where I camped at. The family and I enjoyed smores before I took a few minutes to gather my things and take a quick (and much needed) hot shower.
When I got back to my campsite, I was still unloading my car and getting my dinner together to start cooking when I hear some rustling in the bushes right behind my car. It was 4 baby raccoons getting closer to the pond! So precious!
I woke up feeling refreshed in my cool and shade filled campsite to cook breakfast and start my journey for the day. The family cat was there to tell me goodbye and sneak in a few snuggles.
My kids and I had a great time camping this weekend for our first campout of the year. Our hosts were very nice and welcoming, and accommodating with their indoor facilities. The kids liked exploring the property and meeting the cats, and I loved that it was fenced in so I didn't have to worry about them! We camped near the fire pit, which was stoked by a breeze coming across the pond, which kept our campfire hot. Next time we visit, we're bringing our dog too! Thanks Karmen, and thanks Ron! See ya next time!
In the country
This is a nice camping area, needs some trimming. It was freshly mowed but weeds all around the trees. Some wide open areas, some nice shaded areas and a secluded spot. First night was noisy, frogs and what sounded like a shooting range. Second night frogs and coyotes, but hey your in the country. Bring bug spray! The host was nice enough but I was weirded out by needing to walk in the house, up the stairs, down the dark hallway to the bathroom.
Our hosts were welcoming, helpful, and friendly. The setting was nicely secluded, we were the only campers around the little pond and had our own fire ring. It's also a very pup-friendly area, being mostly fenced in.
The only drawback was the frogs in the pond; another reviewer had mentioned them, but I didn't think it was a big deal because I'm used to camping in all kinds of situations, so the sounds of nature don't typically bother me; however we didn't sleep much the first night because of the loud, intermittent, and unpredictable croaks and groans. Earplugs would be helpful. On the plus side, they were pretty quiet on our second night so your mileage may vary.
Lovely and welcoming
We had such a lovely time at Grove on top Possum Hill! The hosts were friendly and offered great tips about St. Louis. Their property was beautiful and serene. It was a sweet spot to stay on a long trip across the country!
Lovely and easy
It was a beautiful little patch of land with lots of room and plenty of privacy. Lots of shade to pitch a tent under and the hosts were extremely kind and generous with their home.
