Have a fire under the stars or swim in the pool (weather permitting), cook on the grill or open fire. Fires can be dug anywhere you like just return the grass after. We practice "leave no trace" (a scouting technique). Whatever your interests relax your on country time. No overly loud parties or underage drinking.
The restroom is located inside the home. It is and Air B&B with some longer term guests. There is traffic on the road, so you will hear cars on occasion and farm equipment is the season.

Haven found . . < 1 hour from city
Good location. Close to Kankakee Park and river and close to the WAUPONSEE bike trail. It is a central location for your activities. Camp here. Drive to your activity spot 10 minutes away, go wild, come back and camp. They are running this really as a shared living Airbnb which I appreciate as they are opening the house kitchen bathroom and pool to you. Inexpensive vacation spot. Several locations to set up camp. I would like to see more defined fire pit spot with a grill cover for easy use. Plus side, the grass is good, loved the tree. Loved the neighbor, had a chat about his chickens. Downside, its a bit close to a road and you can hear traffic now and then. Thing is you can go to certain pristine parks that are far from the road and they are filled with noisy ppl and running and sputtering RVs. SO all things considered not a deal breaker. I don't know what is going on with Kankakee park but it looks like the camping spots are shut down in the park. But thank goodness this spot was available. Enjoyable, easy in and out. They have power if you need it for RV. I was just a tent camper. They had some oil for my bike chain which I appreciated. Plus this spot is not far from the city and you can get down here and setup in 2 hours if you quick on your setup, go off biking etc, get back to camp and return to the city the next day and not drive more than 1 hour. Plan to return but already the rest of the summer is full.
The host at Back to Earth was very amenable and gracious, but there was a lot of unmentioned loud traffic noise proximate to the camping area which drove by at all hours.
Plus, the given directions were in error.
Hidden private gem
The host Vera felt like family. She was so incredible. She was so friendly and made the environment super comfortable we all felt like home. The pool was perfect on the hot days and we had it all all to ourselves two of the three days we stayed. A rain storm came through and she allowed us all in her home and made lunch for us she even let me use her dryer to dry my wet clothes. We will definitely be back
Totally fine camping spot
This spot is right on a fairly busy road with cars passing pretty regularly throughout the night. Honestly I think that’s fine and it worked for me because the location was convenient for me, but it’s definitely something I would have liked to know before hand. If you’re looking for a charming night of private beautiful camping, look elsewhere. If you need a spot to rest your head on a roadtrip and you brought earplugs this is your spot!
Different but amazing host
Definitely a different experience than I’m used to. Just an open field where you can pitch your tent. Only a couple of trees and right on a road with more traffic than expected. The host could not be more accommodating and let us borrow a shovel (to dig our own fire pit) and extension cord. The pool was in her back yard and the bathroom is in her house which was a little strange. Overall it suited our purpose and the only real issue was the road noise. Everything else was fine although not what we are used to.
We were so grateful to land in a safe, sparkling clean spot. Thank you, Vera! That (important!) intro said, we got lost finding the place. The directions through HipCamp didn’t clarify where the bathroom was, and we got in after the host had gone to bed so we couldn’t find it. The noise from the road is, as others have mentioned, not insignificant. I do recommend ear plugs! If I happen to be road tripping through here again, I wouldn’t hesitate to stay again, but this was not quite what I thought I was getting when we booked it.
