Lorri's place is in one of these large semi wild subdivisions that are common on this side of the Big Island. Its up near the township of Volcano so has a bit of altitude and so is a bit cooler.
Lorri is just starting out here, with her tiny house nestled into the young damp forest. It's not yet a tamed block but there is graveled drive way access into a nice place to park and camp.- we slept in the back of the car. Fall asleep to the sound of frogs!
We used her grill to do BBQ chops, and were provided with water for washing. No tap or toilet to the campsite yet but there is a portable toilet if you needed to use it. We look forward to the high tech composting toilet that is there to be installed:)
A simple and peaceful place to sleep on the flanks of Kilauea. An insight into a way of life on recently created earth. An earth still moving, forming and reforming.

The host is probably the nicest person you will meet on the entire island! She always makes sure there is water for you to use for everything. The weather in the morning is always hot, so showering in the sun is nice. There is even a portable shower you can use if you don't have your own. It's very private, so you're really comfortable and relaxing there. The ground is a bit hard (you are on a volcanic island) but you can use a tarp to put your tent on or even foam to lay under your matress from the host. She provides a basket for dishwashing and a strong torch to light the whole camping space up. There is a fireplace, but it's mostly warm enough anyway. The toilet is portable, but when you sit on it, it's just like a normal toilet. The dogs make you feel really safe!
Thank you for a great stay, we really enjoyed it and were sad to leave. Never did we have such a warm and welcoming host!
