Ka'u is rugged and known for it's volcanic desert in the tropics. Ka'u is not for the weak and has never been conquered. This district on Big Island (Hawai'i) is larger than any of the other islands as it sits on the southern flank of Moana Loa.

Just a short half hour drive away Kona side to Ho'okena Beach for ocean swimming with dolphins or Hilo side for Punulu'u Black Sand Beach.

Only 20 miles to Na'alehu Hawai'ian sweet bread  bakery and Honu'apo (Whittington State Beach Park). and  same distance other direction Miloli'i by the Beach state park while at the bottom of the hill in Ocean View are many services and Road to the Sea is a 4 wheel adventure to Pohue Bay or back Na'alehu side to Green Sand Beach.

July 5th in Na'alehu for to see many paniola (Hawai'ianCowboy).

Volcano is about 50 miles toward Hilo side.

A wonderdul camping experience for my whole family. Very private and safe. The night sky is illuminated by stars and moon. Breathtaking views and the perfect place to restore your peace and harmony. We will Definitely be staying here again. Host is very kind and pleasant. An overall great experience!

The site where we put the tent down is all right, clean and very quiet. However, the toilet could use a good clean up. Also, it gets very cold at night since it is an elevated area.

Bell was very kind and helpful! Our campsite was just a short distance from our car and the bathroom, but felt very private and natural. The view of the stars at night was the best we had during our time on the island.

Ideal spot for the rugged at heart. Quiet, peaceful and feels secluded even though the spot we chose is just a few meters from the compost toilet and parking. View of the stars is fantastic. There were really strong gusts of wind late in the night, not sure if that was a time of year thing (we stayed in late January) The host K is very polite and pleasant.
