My overnight camping experience at Phil's place was, in a word, magical. The location, near Paia town, and on the road to Hana was perfect for my first night on Maui. The large, open grassy area available for camping was very quiet at night, and the stars overhead were amazing! I highly recommend this camping opportunity! Mahalo Phil, for sharing your beautiful home and grounds! Aloha!
Phil's place is beautiful and very well taken care of. He was so accommodating and clearly cares for his guests. Highly recommend staying there and near the very sweet town of Haiku.
This was an amazing place. The stars were bright at night and the birds were beautiful in the morning. Phil is a fantastic host with a lot of great advice. We hope to return sometime soon and would recommend it to anyone looking for a spot with a little adventure!!!
Phil responded promptly to my request and gave perfectly clear directions up the hill to his home where he has opened up a beautiful spot for campers to stay with a very clean outdoor shower and indoor bathroom open to guests. The location was perfect for being able to travel to a safe spot last minute from the main road, and just a few minutes from Jaws general store. Phil was a gracious host who provided a packet of tips and favorite places to go around the island. I am happy to have visited and thank you for opening up your home to travelers such as myself!
Phil's property is such an amazing space! Fruit trees cover the land he has cleared and landscaped and there are gorgeous views all around. The Flora on the property is incredible, with orchids and red ginger flowers. It's so great to have a cute outdoor shower available and toilet inside the house as well. This space is also large enough for a bigger group if need be. There is plenty to do close to where the site is located, including but not limited to exploring the town of Paia, going to Ho'okipa Beach to see the sea turtles and surfers, driving down the Hana Highway and horseback riding. Phil is a helpful and responsive host and I will definitely come back and stay next time I'm on Maui!
Let me start with how friendly and informative Phil is! The property isn't all that close to the beach but it's insanely beautiful. Also there are many restaurant options nearby. Honestly I didn't want to leave.
Spacious and quiet. The outdoor shower has plenty of hot water, and the bathroom is easy to access. We did not use the wifi so can't speak to that. We were only there for one night, camping in our van, so did not get to interact much with Phil other than his friendly welcome, which we appreciated. If you plan to arrive after dark, just be aware you'll have to go pretty slow to make sure you don't miss anything -- when we left in the morning we realized how much easier it would have been in daytime! In a beautiful area of Haiku where you can appreciate the lush, green vegetation of that side of Maui.
