Places to see near Johanna L.’s Land
If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
Johanna lives on a beautiful property right next to the river and a 15min walk into Hilo center, however, it’s in the middle of renovations so there are a few workers on the property and construction areas. The campsite itself doesn’t have hot water and the port-a-potty toilet is quite far from the sink and shower. Johanna herself is very thoughtful host and the place will truly shine once finished.
Peaceful and covered camping
This was a peaceful place to pitch our tent for a night. Great location close to Hilo, but you wouldn't know it when you're by the river listening to the birds! The space is nicely laid out and Johanna was there to meet us. There was one canopy for our tent, one with chairs under it, and one with a platform and rug set up for yoga or meditation. Parking was a little confusing upon arrival (we were instructed to park in the "driveway" which looked like the start of an unfinished road, just to the left of the neighbors driveway and fence.) You have to walk down a hill with a pathway to get from the parking to the tent, and the portopotty is up at the top of the hill.
Feels like jungle but close to town
Joanne was very nice and her property is as well. It’s very close to Honeli’l surf spot and Hilo town. The best part, from a campers perspective, is that you set your tent on a covered deck. So you don’t have to worry about everything getting soaked. A real plus when you consider that Hilo gets an evening rain almost every night.
Johanna was very compassionate and empathetic and is lovely to be around! She did her best in all situations to make us feel welcomed and understood! We would love to come back any time!
