Imagine waking up in a pastoral, park-like setting with a view of the ocean and the Big Island of Hawaii across the Alenuihaha Channel. It’s like waking up in a paradise and that’s what Caroline’s Private Campsites are like in Hana-Maui! Located on a section of a 17 acre farm three miles from the center of Hana town, this exclusive campsite is a short 20-minute walk (less than 10 minutes by car) away from Hamoa Beach and approximately seven miles away from the entrance to Haleakala National Park at O’heo.
Drive down a private road bordered by coconut trees, ulu (breadfruit) and hala, a plant native Hawaiians used to weave mats with, and you’ll be shown to one of three campsites, each with its own fire pit, picnic table and easy access to an outdoor shower and port-a-toilet. Tucked away on its’ own section of a working farm, your neighbors may be a herd of cattle or horses.
Families traveling with children are welcome and there is no additional charge for them but they must be listed on your reservation. As there are inherent dangers on farms, we ask parents to supervise their children, respect the privacy of other campers, and observe our quiet time from 8 pm to 7 am.
Location one is ideal for two people. It is on the edge of the campground and a coconut grove. Location two is great for families or campers requiring more space. Location three is spacious for two tents accommodating four people but it is in a grassy location with no shade trees. All of the campsites have spectacular ocean views!
Coconuts, bananas, papayas, breadfruit and citrus are grown on our farm and we also have a small herd of cattle. Additionally, Tony’s Place, a food truck with outdoor seating areas with social distancing, is next to the Hana Road. It features fresh Hana fish and beef, salads, sandwiches, and local favorites plus great desserts and is open from 10 am to 4 pm. We sell our coconut oil products at our small retail outlet next to the food truck, fresh fish filets you can grill yourself, and firewood.
The road to the campsites is private and we will guide you to your campsite when you check in NO LATER THAN 5 p.m. We will not be able to escort late arrivals to the campsites after dark. To protect the privacy and for the safety of our campers, all campers must have advance reservations.

The vibe at Carolines Location Three
If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
Caroline’s is a must if visiting Hana. Our last trip we knew we wanted to camp here. The sites are very private and have walking access to our favorite beach in Hana, Hamoa Beach. This was our 17month old’s first trip to east Maui and I am glad we stayed at Caroline’s. I wished we could chance our plans to extend. Next time...
Wet & miserable bad weather
My stay unfortunately coincided with a horrific rain and windstorm making it quite unsuitable for camping as there was no shelter from the wind or rain coming straight off the ocean. It would have been lovely but I could not even get out of my vehicle to pitch my tent and if I had it would probably been blown away. I only stayed part of one of my 2 nights sleeping in the vehicle hoping the wind and rain would let up. Ended up driving back at 4 am.
Sean was very pleasant and gave me a tour of the orchard. I wished the weather would have been more cooperative, but apparently there was even snow and freezing rain up on the mountain that morning....freaky weather but a nice spot, just not for tenting on that night.
We absolutely loved it here! Tony was incredibly sociable and pleasant, the views were amazing, and we felt incredibly safe. We saw a pod of 30+ whales one night right outside from our campsite! Would absolutely camp there again.
The campsite was beautiful, peaceful, private and relaxing. There were two other sites but they were far away enough to have privacy. The campfire at night and coffee while watching the sun come up over the ocean were added benefits.
Tony and Carolyn were very welcoming and friendly. The campground was much better then we were expecting. Beautiful view very quite and very safe. Much more space then we had anticipated and comes with a lot of great amenities. Are daughter loved the horses and we had an amazing time. Mahalo
