Super sweet host! We have stayed here on several occasions, and we absolutely LOVE IT! Its rustic, small, quaint, and the best part is that the river is directly across the street, and secluded. We love the cozy feel to this place, the pull down projection screen is also fantastic! Recommend to anyone that is looking for a little diamond in the rough for a more country, rustic vibe.
Creek and river is a bonus
Great location right across from the river with easy foot access. We visited Helen and Unicoi Park just minutes away. There is a creek steps from the door that was enjoyable to walk in.
Cozy and convenient. loved it!
This little cabin is a great find on Hipcamp! We were not sure what to expect but were pleasantly pleased upon arrival. The cabin sits only 2 miles outside of Helen and 1/2 mile from Tray Moumtain Rd. The river is across the street and there is a mountain stream right out the back door with a little footbridge to cross that leads into the National Forest. The steam also provides the water for the cabin which is supplied through a homestead water system, but if you grew up “belly down in real mountain creeks” is not a problem. It does require a little maintenance from the lucky guest but it is no bother and really adds to your mountain cabin experience. The water pressure was good and hot water was hot. The cabin is primarily heated with a wood stove so be prepared in cold weather to build a fire but there are also a couple of additional heat sources the help keep you very comfortable. Temps were in the 20’s and 30’s and we were warm and cozy with plenty of wood supplied. Inside the cabin was a surprise. Nicely remodeled and decorated in mountain style. Everything you need is there in the cabin and it was clean. Dishes, pots and pans, and most common kitchen supplies were there on a use it replace it honor system which was very nice. Linens supplied. There were 2 bedrooms, master is king, 2nd is queen I believe, appeared to have sleeper sofa in living room and a cot under the bed in 2nd bedroom. This space is very sufficient and you get comfortable quick. It has a pull down projection screen with blue ray and several apps to watch tv via the WiFi. Outside the cabin is modest but welcoming. The back porch has firewood stacked for days and allows room to sit and listen to the babbling brook in the backyard. The front is a nicely constructed deck with gas grill and rope lighting for a pleasant evening. Just off this deck is a what appears to be an old but working homestead stone fireplace chimney that provides the outdoor fireplace experience to build you evening fire. Overall this was a great find for us and we thoroughly enjoyed our trip. Our host was a great communicator and we were quickly provided with any answers to questions we had and treated like old friends. I would highly recommend this if you are wanting the true mountain experience and not the pure luxury cabins you normally find and pay ridiculous money for.
Not for me
Stephanie, the host, was very helpful in getting us situated. However it was not a comfortable place for me to stay. Between smoke in the air from needing to use the wood stove to keep warm, plus the musty smell of mold in part of the house, I got a headache after only an hour or two and had to leave. Also the bathroom window is stuck open which made the bathroom very cold. Lastly, the water situation was difficult. The tank was near empty when we arrived so we had to be walked through setting up the pump to add water from the nearby stream. It was challenging. All that said, it’s a great location adjacent to national forest land, and very private.
Beautiful property, loved it
We loved staying here! It was amazing. It was super close to Helen. Tons of beds and couches. I loved the projector! We watched Jumanji! The backyard was like a dream; rivers, amazing hills, tons of trees. We felt super safe and private. I loved sitting on the front porch and watching cars drive by. When it was quiet, all we could hear was the surrounding water; we kept thinking it was raining but it was just all the natural streams. We loved it!!!
