Primitive camping on 44 private acres in the mountains of North Georgia, on Tallulah River. Trout fishing from your campsite, private, beautiful Rabun County. Lot's of outdoor activities in the area. Forest Service land, and more nearby. Come stay with us. Private and secluded. We try to limit the property to 4 vehicles. This is to keep it private, isolated, and fun. This is not a campground, but a private 43.7 acres on Tallulah River, which we love to share.
We are also pet-friendly. Just please respect Sparky the Beagle, Donut the Chiweenie Dog, and Socrates the Cat! Please don't take care of our animals. Sparky is very friendly. Being a Beagle-dog, he likes to get around, so he does makes the rounds, come meet people and wanders some. He is super-friendly, will come visit, will get in the car with you, but PLEASE DON'T. We had one group of campers "SAVE" Sparky from his private 43.7 acres refuge to the city! Please don't abduct Sparky!
And while we are at it, please do do doughnuts in the hay field. Every young kid from Athens seems to want to tear up the hay field. Please don't! We expect it to be left mostly like it was. Thanks! Plus the horses and cows across the river enjoy that hay next winter!
Other than that, please come enjoy some solitude! Thanks!

The vibe at Primitive River Camping
If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
Chris’ property is tucked into the Appalachian Mountains of North Georgia and is a wonderful place to set up your tent for the night and enjoy the quiet serenity of the area. Chris is a welcoming host and he will come down to the riverside campsite to greet you but also affords you plenty of peace and quiet. A great section of the Tallulah River runs right by the campsite and there are beautiful trout in the water. A fire ring is set up already and Chris provides firewood at a small fee. Primitive River Camping is a great place to stop by on a road trip or to set up a basecamp for exploring the mountains.
Lovely spot in a great area. Very relaxed, Chris is a gracious host who made sure we were happy and left us alone to enjoy camping right on the river. Very quiet with only the sound of the water to break the silence. The property is grass by the water to camp on and goes all the way up the mountain side with thick trees and lots of wildlife. We’ll be back again this year for sure. Clayton is 20 minutes away and one of our favorite mountain towns. Great restaurants and all the amenities you could need. 5 star weekend.
Luckily we got to the site first and had a nice spot next to the river. Another group arrived the day after us and didn't really know where to set up. For privacy, there's really only room for one group in my opinion.
2nd visit... love this place, so perfect if you like being alone and right on a beautiful river in a shady spot. Close to Clayton for a quick run into town if you need something. There are no facilities so you need to be self sufficient... which is why it’s so perfect.
This is a great spot to fish, relax, and star game. As far as camping goes the space is kind of small and it's surrounded by private land so you don't really feel like you are out in nature. We drove out to a nearby park for most of the day and it worked out perfectly.
Chris is a good host and the other campers were very friendly
