The primitive group camping area, very privately located on a 143-acre horse ranch, is easily accessed by vehicle on gravel road.   The ranch features about 9 miles of hiking and horseback trails, adjacent to the camping area, and spans the ranch property on both sides of the river.  A toilet with hot shower at the equestrian center about 500 feet away.  WiFi is only available near the main residence.  There is a fishing pond on the property (keep what you catch) and lots of wildlife in the woods.  The base fee is $5/PERSON, not $5/group, and there is a $100/night minimum.  This is a dispersed camping area, sites are not individually designated on this level, shady, sandy area next to the river with room for about 30 tents.  It features a large brick fire pit, a small picnic shelter with charcoal grill and two picnic tables under it.

Horseback riding lessons are available for an additional fee and need to be booked at least 3 days in advance.

There is a $20 surcharge for guests arriving after 7 p.m.

Our group of 12 (6 adults and 6 kids) really enjoyed Grove River Primitive Camp. The picnic tables/covered area was great. And the fire pit and wood provided for campfires was a fan favorite for our cool fall stay! The site was very private!

The kids loved the fishing and we also booked horse back riding lessons for the kids - fantastic!

We definitely have Grove River on our short list for future camping trips.

It was a pleasure hosting this group, the kids were very well behaved, and they left the facilities as clean as they found them! They are welcome to return any time they can!

Great stay for a large group. Creek is great for the kids to play in. Long walk to the toilet but everything else was perfect. Would camp there again.
