4 acres hosted by Judy B.
Our Giving Garden is about 5 years old. We have around 3 acres of land. We are 100% volunteer run and we donate all the food we grow to Georgia families in need. We have donated over 1,500 pounds of Georgia grown fresh fruits, vegetables and eggs. We have 14 hens and 2 bee hives. In addition to our mission of interrupting hunger, we also provide green space to the community. We have picnic tables, benches, ornamental gardens, lots of kids play areas including gravel digging areas, tire swings, climbing areas and more.
The land has a small pond and hope to work to make that walking trail around. We offer educational classes to the community on sustainable practices. We offer tours and field trips to schools and groups/clubs. We have several free community events throughout the year. The land has a ranch house. We are working with Family Promise of Cobb County to temporarily house families in need. This would be families with a job and car, but no long term housing. The goal is to get them out of hotels/efficiencies and into a home for 3-4 months.
In the basement apartment we have been housing farm hands from around the country and the world (we have a family in there from New Zealand now) to stay at the garden for free for a few weeks in exchange for them working half days on the garden.
