Lovely, convenient site. Sites were spaced well apart and clean. Port-a-potty was clean and well stocked. Only negative was it’s close to a fairly busy road so there was traffic sound/light into the evening but not bad. Would definitely stay here again if in the area!
Leafy creekside close to town
It was lovely to be welcomed to north Georgia by the lovely autumn foliage and clear creek that trickles through this campground! Kimberly was a welcoming and communicative host, who gave me excellent recommendations for places to pick apples. The campground is located on land that has been in her family for generations, and so she has a natural familiarity with the landscape and the region.
The appearance of the campground is still a bit raw, since it is so new, but the trees and the creek are absolutely beautiful - it's easy to walk down to the creek, where the water runs cool over smooth stones. (The waterfall a mile or two up Clay Creek Road is not to be missed!) I had plenty of space to set up my tent (wherever I liked!) and appreciated the plentiful firewood. Access is easy, since the campground is located just off of Highway 9. However, this is also Clay Creek's greatest drawback - the traffic noise is considerable, and it's not drowned out by the trickling creek. I had trouble falling asleep until traffic started to die down in the night, but once it quietened down, I slept very well. When I awoke at dawn, it was to the sound of owls, distant coyotes, and songbirds.
If you don't have a problem with the sound of traffic and appreciate being only minutes from town, then I would recommend Clay Creek to you without hesitation. If you're a light sleeper or someone searching for deep silence, however, another place might be a better selection for you.
I wish Kimberly the best of luck with her new venture!
