WOAH, W.A.N.D.E.R! This Hipcamp site wins the cake. Driving into the driveway of Nancy and Wendell’s homestead is completely unassuming from the road. But upon entering the driveway and driving a short way up to the house, the abundance of plants and color is astounding. We were greeted first by Shameus and Lucy the dogs and then by the jet black cat that wants attention just as much as the dogs. It was love at first sight for both of us! Nancy came out a few minutes later and told us to make ourselves comfortable at the Eco house. The Eco house is only a few yards from their house but between the two is an above ground pool set with colorful sails above it for shade. There are edible plants everywhere you look! The Eco house is 350 square feet. A rectangle of a space, with a lofted ceiling, bright white white walls adorned with textiles from Panama and lots of family pictures on the fridge. We had everything we needed in this comfortable space. A kitchen with sink, full fridge with freezer, convection oven, and hot plate. The bathroom had a stand up shower, sink, and composting toilet. There is a 10 gallon hot water heater and it suited us just fine. The bed was queen sized and firm but comfortable. Guests are welcome to use the pool (we didn’t that night, but should have) as well as help themselves to what’s ripe in the garden. We picked arugula for our burgers and fresh peas to eat out of hand like candy. This farm has been growing their own food for 20 years and the amount of citrus trees is amazing. There is an entire 5 acres of wild tangerines in a back field! And there are 6 water buffalo in the field behind the garden. We even got a taste of fresh water buffalo milk! Wyndell was out there with the buffalo when we arrived, so we wasted no time heading out there ourselves. The newest member of the family, Tiny, eating a bucket of watermelon and followed Wyndell around like a dog. Out here by the buffalo and the chickens is where they have a campsite as well. We absolutely enjoyed every minute of our time here. We highly recommend W.A.N.D.E.R as a place to come and enjoy. You will feel welcome before you even get out of your car!
