When it's too cold and wet in the winter, it's the right time to camp at Suwannee River Campsite as November through May is the prettiest time of year with warm days, cool nights and fewer bugs to spoil your idyllic getaway.

Privacy and exclusivity await at this beautiful 6-acre river retreat adjacent to thousands of acres of Conservation Easement on a designated Pristine Scenic Waterway on the banks of the Suwannee River in North Florida.

A private campsite with a screened platform room with table and seating for four and a place to hang your hammock, air mattress or sleeping bag,  an outdoor bathroom facility with running hot water and huge fire pit. A three-minute walk down a broad, shaded, gently sloping path takes you to the banks of the Suwannee River, with clearly marked orange blazes outlining the Florida National Scenic Trail and a 1/2 mile Scenic Loop to the only waterfall in Florida. There is direct river access all year long for swimming, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, biking, bird watching and fishing on site, with horseback riding at Skunkie Acres, live music at the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park, folk festivals at the Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center and Big Shoals Class III whitewater rapids within a 15-minute drive. Go on eco-adventures, dine al fresco at the riverside gazebo or just spend the day lazing on the zen deck reading a good book watching the river float by. Privacy and seclusion are guaranteed by the deeply wooded grounds and exclusivity is ensured as there is a one group per weekend policy.

Children over the age of 10, dogs, cats and horses welcome.

Where to start, where to start... Oh! On arrival!

Janet (host) greeted us at the entrance of her property and gave us a tour. She's surrounded by national and state forests, and the locally famous Suwanee River. For Florida this is as private as you can get. We were shown the sleeping options, which includes tent space and a screened in (all sides, including the floor) freestanding porch/room. Large firepits, enclosed bathroom, a heated shower, electric cooking stove and acres of walking space were all pointed out. I was expecting a totally primitive location and setup, and instead had an experience more similar to glamping. No complaints here!
After the living space, she took us on a walk to some nearby bonuses. She pointed us to a trail containing possibly the only waterfall in Florida, and in the other direction canoe access and a private beach along the Suwanee River. It was also pointed out that due to the secluded nature of the location, this was a total dark sky location. Not easy to find in the Eastern States!
We stayed in the screen enclosed room on an air mattress that we brought along. No bugs, and soft pleasant lighting was provided by colored lights on the ceiling. Plenty of airflow too, which I believe would make this a great place to stay even in the Florida summer.
All in all, this was a very comfortable experience. Plenty to see and keep you occupied, great hospitality, and a very short walk to a waterfall. Everything I'd want while camping.

One of the many areas available to sleep. We stayed in the screened room to the back.Passing the time. Also, another view of the screened in room with electricity.Easy access to the Suwannee River!Large fire pit, plenty of room for tents and hammocks.
