The vibe at Hammock in the Pines - Tent Camping
Places to see near New Heritage Ranch
If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
Hammock in the Pines is a really great place to camp or park your RV. Isela is the host at this sustainable living farm and she is soooo nice! She has so many cute animals, each with their own name and story. We fell in love with the miniature horses, the pigs, the dog Rusty, the goats, the donkeys, the chickens, rabbits, geese ... if you're an animal lover or even just have a curiosity about them, this is the place for you!
As far as camping goes, there are six numbered campsites. The spot closest to Isela's house can accommodate an RV or two. There's a water spigot just a few feet away as well as a toilet (the flushing kind - and it's outside!) There's also a nice big campfire pit as well as close proximity to all of the animals. We found a really great spot for our van at spot #2. It was level, near all the amenities above and easy to pull in and out of. If we were tent camping, we'd probably choose to go back towards sites 4, 5 and 6 which are a little more private and in the woods. Six seemed to offer the most shade in the middle of the day.
We recommend this site to anyone who is even remotely interested in farm life, is looking for something unique in a camping trip and wants to meet a really nice host! Also, it's super dark at night for star gazing!
Our short stay was Hammock in the Pines was simply delightful. We arrived later in the evening, but Isela and her husband met us outside, showed us everything we could need and let us have our choice of campsite. The small outhouse (toilet room and shower room) were not expected, but we were thrilled to see them! I woke up the next morning to the sound of farm life, and then joined Isela outside while she fed and introduced me to the animals. If you love animals, New Heritage Ranch is the place for you! There are donkeys, miniature ponies, geese, ducks, guinea hens, a variety of chickens, pigs, and the most friendly dog and cat. There are also a variety of campsites to choose from, some being close to the house and barn, while others are back in the woods and quite private. Isela and her husband have spent a lot of time creating walking paths and keeping everything clear and maintained. We stayed and talked with them for a few hours before our schedule demanded we leave, but not before they offered us breakfast and told us to come back anytime. We definitely plan to!
Great place for kids!
Such an awesome place to camp. The kids, 6 & 7, had a blast! Isela showed them around the entire farm, taking time to introduce each animal. She was so patient and caring and the kids loved every minute of it! The campsite we chose, # 5, was big enough for our 2 tents, 5 people. Very cozy and pretty private. There was no picnic table on site but our wonderful host brought one down for us to use for the weekend. They were so helpful and accomidating. Site # 6 is also pretty private and way more shaded, but one of our tents is super large and wouldn't have enough clearance. We would highly recommend camping at this location! It's a must-do for kids!
Like a stay with old friends
I was looking for a little camping with the kids for spring break. What I found was a relaxing getaway with many cool things to see and wonderful hosts. I was nervous about my first time camping with the kids, but Isela and her family made us feel right at home. We were the only campers that night and I connected with Isela right away.
I felt comfortable swapping stories, jumping in to see what I could do to help, and my kids enjoyed the animals! It was a neat way to spend the night outdoors, but with company that felt like family. It was nice to have the reassurance that we were staying eith good people.
Don't get me wrong, if you want seclusion and time alone this is the place to go as well. There is primitive camping not far from the house in the pines where you can have you space if you are looking for it.
The kids wanted to stay another night! We will definitely be back!
Our stay with Isela & Fred was just as expected. We enjoyed some downtime, a little exploring, a visit with the wide variety of animals on the farm and finished with a fire pit session and s'mores. Away from the noise and bustle of the city but close enough to venture out and about if that's your thing.
Friendly host and farm animals!
Isela was great. She was gracious and communicative, and reached out to us the day of our arrival to ensure she'd be present when we made it.
The animals are a great draw. We were able to assist with night time feeding of donkeys, mini horses, goats, pigs, chickens, ducks, geese and their barn cat (who recently gave birth to four kittens).
Location was accessible (less than a half hour from Week Wachee State Park)and there were several sites for tent set up. Next time we're in the area, we'll definitely look up Hammock In The Pines. Thanks Isela!
Inspiring, entertaining, relaxing
Fred and Isela are gracious hosts and really interesting and inspiring people. We learned so much from them in the short time we spent together around the fire. Very generous with giving us our spaces and available when needed. Incredible experience!
