Camping on the back forty.
My son and daughter in law will definitely be going back. Don't expect entertainment, but if you want a quiet place to camp, at a reasonable price, this is it. Mike was very accommodating.
Camping with cujo and fire
When we pulled in and went to the door to meet our host, he wasn't home. A young man that lived there answered and stated that he "didn't know anyone was coming today". He told us to park where ever we wanted. It was as if we were bothering him. We were in this spot for 4 days and never once met the host named Mike on the Hipcamp page.
There were farm animals on the other side of the fence that were nice to watch, but on the side of the property where you park there was a large aggressive dog that would be let out of the house. We had to grab our small dog and physically push the aggressive dog away from him to get him to safety. The dog would urinate on our truck running boards and tires everyday. One night we were coming back in after grocery shopping and had to wait in our truck for the dog to stop throwing his body into the truck door and scratching the bottom of our door with his claws while he growled at us. We never went outside without alone, always together. We did text the host the very first night we encountered the dog and after a couple hours he responded with "that's odd" and he put the dog away for the night.
The pictures don't show what this camp actually looks like. Like I said there are farm animals out in the pasture and chickens walking around, but it doesn't show the part of the yard that has many trailers, tents and broken down cars that people live in on a full time basis. The pictures also don't show the pile of trash they had in the pasture. This pile of garbage was about 30 feet long and 20 feet tall. Then on our third night there they set it on fire with gasoline. There were ashes the size of my hands covering my truck and trailer.
We travel frequently, but this was our first Hipcamp and most likely our last.
If you are looking for the cheapest place to score wifi, hot showers and a flush toilet, this is your place. I would not classify it as a "vacation destination," however. Mike is a great guy.
40 acres to camp! Pick a spot!
Mike was so personable and accommodating, he opens up his ranch for people to come and enjoy themselves and the quiet at a minimal price. The baby goats were my favorite part!
