Our home is on 8 acres of land in The Ocala National Forest that we call Grateful Hammock. Grateful Hammock is a progressive, ever changing, intentional community of like minded people. **** In light if the recent CO-VID 19 epidemic The Grateful Hammock is currently closed. This is a serious matter and should not be taken lightly. Thank you for your cooperation in advance. We look forward to meeting you in the future. Live music from our fireside stage fills the air on some days and evenings. (So be sure to bring your instruments!!!) Primitive tent and RV / trailer camping is available. Grateful Hammock is just two miles (we are the closest Hipcamp site!) from the Silver River, one of the most beautiful rivers in the country, and there are wild monkeys (along with alligators turtles and all kinds of birds!) on it! Even closer is the Ocklawaha River, which is also beautiful and available for fishing. When you visit Grateful Hammock, you will leave as a part of our tribe! GHT!*****Ask us about our musicians special!!***** (Discount camping in exchange for live music!). Other Nearby adventures; The Canyons zip line. The tallest zipline course in Florida, plus horseback riding, just 16 miles west. Also, at Captain Jacks you can ride a horse on The Florida Trail, across the I-75 land bridge! Our goal is sustainability, so leave the disposable camping supplies like paper plates and plastic dinnerware on the grocery store shelves. Our outdoor kitchen has everything you need for eating and cooking, including plates and real silverware, coffee mugs and glasses, and most things found in a standard kitchen. . We also have a full size stove and a mini fridge for your conveniences. Watch our guided tour to get an idea of what it's like here at the Grateful Hammock. 10 minutes. https://youtu.be/7PHxPpfDPeU

Simplest review? - so much fun!
Our hosts Dan and Donna, have built a hell of a little community area. Roughly 8 acres of woods to give you that away-from-it-all feeling. At the heart of the compound they've built a stage for musicians play and share. There's a full kitchen, swings, things to climb, communal fire pit, several bar areas, a pool table, giant jenga sets, hula hoops... so much to do. They're also in the process of opening up a bus house, and building some tiny homes. Lots to do. Very safe, very friendly.
All around, I'd recommend again, and look forward to coming back to visit someday!

Huge and beautiful forests on the property.Their old home, a living bus, is parked on the property.Activities for all ages...The Grateful Hammock truly shines at night.

One of our favorite things to do is to get to know new friends around our fire circle. The evening we spent with the two of you was a specifically fun time!

I had never visited this part of Florida before and was eager to camp in the Ocala National Forest. Dan and Donna have truly created a community in this forest. We were lucky enough to see their community in action since we were there over the New Year holiday. New Year's Eve was filled with their friends reminiscing by the fire and sharing music on their covered, outdoor stage. The vibe was really special. The shared outdoor kitchen and fire really bring the community together, and there is a real family aspect, but the campsites are designed to be private if you want to stay in your own space. We only used the kitchen to wash dishes as we had prepared our usual camping foods to cook on the fire and our little camp stove, but we felt very welcome to use everything that was available. We stayed on one of the new platform sites and it was very nice for our free-standing tent. This is also a very dog-friendly site and our dogs were welcomed by everyone. We really enjoyed our stay.

If you find your hippie soul calling you back to nature (ANYWHERE in Ocala National) THIS Hipcamp is a MUST. Dan and Donna’s warmth, acceptance, and hospitality are truly indescribable. The Grateful Hammock is full of amazing amenities and the inviting feeling of being part of a Tribe. I spent my weekend there just trying to express what it feels like to be part of something so amazing, and all I can say is “soul renewing”. We left Grateful Hammock today after only a mere weekend spent and pulled out longingly leaving this peaceful paradise like leaving a gathering of our oldest family and friends. I recommend this Hipcamp to any voyager wishing to restore their faith in humanity. And I mean that from the bottom of my hippie heart. 🌈❤️

Full kitchen with everything you could possibly need. True hippie glamping. And notice we were greeted with a sign! ❤️The amenities are countless. Our site had a platform for your tent or to use as a porch! Musician friends stop by and live music just happens!!

Grateful Hammock is a trippy hippie wonderland of a campsite. There were so many cool things to look at around the campsite, and the kitchen really came in handy. Dan & Donna we’re so nice & my friends and I had such a great time hanging out with them and the other campers around the communal fire pit. Such good vibes there. We will definitely be back. (:
