Wooded areas in a horse pasture

Gayle’s property is literally 10 min from Downtown St. Augustine and all that has to offer. We wanted to camp to be more Covid-Safe and the state parks were all booked, so we found hip camp! This was my first time staying at a Hip Camp site. She offered an outdoor shower with hot water, picnic tables and a big open space to set up our tent. The arrival procedures and field camping were simple and Gayle was flexible about our last minute book and request to stay an extra night. It was nice to meet someone that lives locally that was willing to share her space with us for a couple of nights.

This site was exactly as expected. Right off of 95 in a horse pasture. We were able to choose any area of the pasture that we wanted. Just be aware of horse poo...but it is a horse pasture, so you should expect it. Gayle was wonderful and communicative. We appreciated that we could arrive late and leave early to continue driving with minimal interaction for safety due to COVID.

Gayle is a super kind host. However the directions were a bit misleading. She wasn't home when I arrived, and her helper wasn't very clear in directions. Her ad lists use of facilities but we didn't know where they were until the next afternoon. Her restroom is and an outhouse. There was horse poo in the area we used which seemed a bit unexpected. Her fire pit while available was not kept up so we would have had to clean it out to utilize it as it sits near long-term guests that we didn't want to bother to use the space either.
Lots of moisture in the area that wasn't mentioned and so our gear was wet after one night so we left the next day early. This wasn't anyone's fault we would have prepped better had we know there were areas of water very close by.
It's a good spot that could be made better with more upfront descriptions.

We enjoyed our stay on Gayle’s land. Loved the location, and the peace and quiet of our spot that was very private. We were able to light a little fire in a the fire pit at night, and enjoyed the friendly animals- cats, dogs and horses on the property. The location was great- close to all the must-sees of St. Augustine. We would stay again!

Great spot. Incredibly quiet. Flat pasture surrounded by wooded areas. It was fun to visit with the horses. Gayle was super friendly and welcoming. We would definitely stay again.
