The vibe at Country Lane Camp
Places to see near Country Lane Camp
If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
If you're looking for an impromptu weekend camping trip, this spot is a great place to go! Wake up with dappled sunlight and birdsong in the morning, and fall asleep to moon and starlight at night.
Staying at Country Lane Camp was a great escape from daily life for a few days. Joan was very welcoming and greeted me as I arrived. She and her husband were great hosts and I would recommend staying for a couple of nights.
The campsite was well laid out and very private from the house. There is a large light that can be used at night as well as three plug-ins next to the tent pad. The table and chairs made life easier for cooking, although there are plenty of places to eat within a 10 mile radius if you're not looking to cook on a camp stove. You can pull your vehicle right up to the site - no need to lug gear and supplies.
A simple welcome card outlining the rules is on the table and firewood and fire starters were provided.
If you're not picky about water, the tap on hand is potable and clean. There is a garbage bin available, but bring bags just in case.
A hot water shower is available and a short walk from the site. The outhouse is quite well built and is also only a short walk away. If you're feeling like taking a walk, a nature trail circles the property where you can see various birds and raptors flying in between the trees.
I had a great time during my stay and was very pleased with how everything was set up. I would stay here again!
A lovely campsite in the middle of farmland. The hosts' property is all wooded and the campsite is within site of their house yet it feels pretty private. They have made efforts to be sure you have all you need. It was more than we expected. We would stay here again for sure!
Excellent weekend getaway
A nice, quaint weekend getaway.! Very shady and tidy space with table and fire pit , cute outhouse, hot outdoor shower... what more could you ask for in terms of car camping? Pretty remote location- lots of farm animals in neighboring properties- interesting sounds at night! Joan is an attentive host who supplied us with a map of property as well as an outline of local attractions. They supply firewood and have a charging station and overhanging light for the campsite.
This was exactly what we were looking for. We wanted to have some privacy and not be camping next to strangers. We had that and there was very little vehicle traffic. Light pollution was pretty low.
There were tons of interesting animal sounds all around. Heard an owl, cows, donkeys (they were next door and we went to pet them. so cute and friendly!), aaand a LION(!) that lives at a nearby animal sanctuary.
The fire pit would be perfect to put a grill grate over, though we cooked in foil packets and on skewers.
The tent pad was a nice touch.
The outhouse was topnotch by outhouse standards.
There was some kindling and wood provided.
Picnic table and seating made food prep and dining easy.
Joan was a welcoming host. We'd definitely consider going back.
Just what i was hoping for
I absolutely loved my stay here! With all of my usual primitive campsites booked, I was looking for somewhere to hammock camp and Country Lane Camp turned out to be just perfect! Joan was a wonderful host and the property has some great features just for campers. The main camping area is set up nicely with a sand tent pad, picnic table, light, fire pit, firewood, and a power strip. I was able to find a suitable place for my hammock just down the trail from the regular camping area and it worked out just fine. The property is surrounded by farms and ranches with open fields but the campsite and the owner's property are heavily wooded and it really feels like you are in the middle of the woods. The quarter-mile (seems longer) hiking trail that winds through the property is beautiful and takes you right back to the camping area. The owner's home is on the same property but you will probably forget it's there. The outhouse seems like it's right out of Better Homes and Gardens and is nicer than many indoor bathrooms I've seen. You will hear all kinds of animal sounds at night, including, if you are lucky, lions, tigers, and cougars from the nearby big cat sanctuary. The donkeys, coyotes, and dogs from neighboring farms can be somewhat loud so if you are a light sleeper like me, just bring some ear plugs and you will be set.
I usually backpack into primitive sites in state parks but this was the best of both worlds. I still felt like I was "out there" but it was nice to be able to drive right up to the site and have access to bathroom, electric and even a shower, though I didn't use it. Also, it's close enough stores, restaurants, gas stations, etc. should you need anything. From the immaculate outhouse to marked trail signs and the "charging mailbox" there are some really neat touches to this place that make you feel at home. This site is perfect for anyone who just needs a quick getaway. I also think it would perfect for cyclists who are using the nearby trails.
I have a long list of places I want to camp but I do expect to be back here, especially if I need another impromptu 24-hour vacation!
Had a great time at Country Lane Camp. It's a great little site that's really out there, yet close to everything too. Joan is a fantastic host, checked on us a couple times to make sure we had what we need. She provided a great little guide with a map of the site as well as tips for things to do in the area. Many nice little touches you wouldn't get at a public campground, and really spacious site. We were even able to set up our suspended tent in the trees. Just FYI, there are many sounds of wildlife throughout the night and early morning (roosters, donkeys, coyotes, and possibly lions from a nearby sanctuary).
