Host Su Mc Mahen says:
This ranch is 100 years old and sits right on The Great Western Trail. The cattle drive trail that stretches from South Texas to points north for sale/rail during the 1800's cattle driving days. The Red River cattle crossing at Doan's Crossing is only a few miles north. Today the ranch is a working ranch, running yearlings. The property is very private, quiet and beautiful. Salt Creek runs through the property and campers can choose where they would like to primitive camp. Cattle are on a rotational grazing program, so depending on what season etc...there may be cattle grazing nearby. There are no specific "campsites" as you can choose from the creek area, pasture/grassland, hillside, or next to one of two ponds. There is parking at the home site and walking/transport to campsite. Property is available for year-round primitive camping. Please see rules for specifics. Property is conducive to quiet, serene uninterrupted outdoor experiences including miles of back roads (dirt/paved) for biking, walking, horseback riding... Horses are welcome, pens are available as well as pasture grazing. Current Coggins test is required. Historic area especially inspiring for writers/artists/photographers/birding enthusiasts... Perfect get-away for a weekend, weekdays or holidays. Custom arrangements can be made for groups...
