Staying at Mikel's slice of paradise was an unforgettable experience! Is there such a thing as exposed solitude? The rolling treeless plains of the high-desert were haunting and stunningly beautiful, and the backdrop of snow-capped peaks brought tears to my eyes. Mikel is a (healing) force of nature -- she will offer you as much or as little of her deep well of knowledge of the area, as well as a tour of the cobb dwelling (pictured) that she's building. Staying at her ranch is a unique experience and not to be missed, and her cooking (should you choose to have her cook for you) is fabulous. The Bighorn National Forest is an easy 30-minute drive away.

Sarah: thank you so much. I love how you wrote about your experience here. I look forward to your return . Please bring your good dog, Semi...what a sweetheart. Mikel’s place has a special vibe because of her love for the land and her unique way of making us feel like family! We have stayed here and will continue to stay here as long as it is available. Our dog, Piper absolutely LOVES it here too! We have met other great people staying with Mikel and enjoyed her company at our cookouts together! This trip we learned so much about Cobb homes (she is building one on her property) and she even let us plaster and apply the Cobb mud! If you want a truly unique and fun stay- we recommend Spirit Riders!

Mikel was great. The views are great. We thought it a bit overpriced though. $20 for our dog? The breakfast was very good but again $20/person.

You need a self-contained RV or van as there are no facilities or water available.

Bighorn Mt Range from the pasture. Big (not by Wyoming standards apparently!) wind storm hit at 1:30am, so be prepared for wind, rain and mud.

Howdy: yes, I accept dogs and most places do not. I have never had a complaint over a dog fee. The good news is that your dog loved the room to roam. About breakfast, organic ingredients cost more. I serve really tasty and healthy meals. The tips speak for themselves and my prices are fair and reflect that.

Mikel was communicative and fantastic. She kindly guided us to a parking spot for the evening and even taught our pup how to behave off leash in under 5 minutes! haha We had a fantastic evening watching the sun set over the mountains and even woke up to see a bald eagle on a nearby fence post! We wish we could have stayed a few nights longer in this gorgeous spot!

It has taken almost a week to find the words to describe our stay at Spiritriders Retreat. Our visit dates were Sep 30 - Oct 3. We drove our 40 ft Class A towing a pickup all the way to our spot. Mikel met us on arrival and guided us to a beautiful spot with a view of the mountains. We were able to level without any problems. Mikel hosted us for a steak and chicken dinner cooked over an open fire. We were able to visit with Mikel a little more and enjoyed a beautiful evening by the fire. The setting is amazing and our dog had such a great time running free and getting to know Mikel’s dogs and numerous antelope. The sunsets were magnificent and the night skies were starlit. There is an Amish market located nearby with very tasty baked goods and handmade furniture and decor. The absolute best part of our experience was meeting Mikel and making a new life friend. Mikel is kind, interesting, honest, and extremely knowledgeable. You will not be disappointed and, like us, will very likely want to stay longer. We are already anticipating our next visit. Thanks Mikel!!!

I appreciate your heartfelt words. The card you left me is saved along with lovely memories and I so enjoyed the amazing meal you then cooked for us. I'm really very grateful for having met you, Tati and Piper. I look forward to going down the trail in the future and sharing more great stuff that life offers. With best and warm regards, Mikel

What can we say to do both this location and wonderful host justice? We stayed on Mikel's land in late July for a little over a week- our massive 5th wheel, our dog, and our two kids. Mikel's land is special- amazing view, enough space or interaction to suite either desire, remote, close to an amazing mountain range for exploration, silence and a night sky to remember. The dog loved to roam. The kids loved to ride their bikes around. We loved the silence. And Mikel- she deserves these positive reviews. This woman works hard to make your stay memorable. We had issues with our trailer while on her land- she made a call. Within a couple hours a neighbor arrived, looked around, fixed the issue and left without accepting payment. His comment was, "Any friend of Mikel's is a friend of mine". During this time of unrest and polarization...the interactions and vibe at Spirit Riders Mikel's gave us hope. Thanks Mikel. We hope to visit again soon.

Great place to stay! We camped on the property and had amazing views of the mountains. We opted in for the steak dinner and it was amazing. Mikel makes you feel like family and makes sure you are taken care of. The views of the stars at night are to die for since your out in the middle of no where. Lots of animal droppings on the property but no smell. Woke up to antelope outside our tent in the morning, Amazing! Wish we had time for a few more days here. Will be looking to come back sooner rather than later.
