Description

There’s nothing “lower” about Lower Paintrock Lake Campground. In Wyoming’s Bighorn National Forest, right next to Cloud Peak Wilderness, the names alone imply that you’re gonna be dealing with rocky scenery so beautiful it looks painted, and a vast mountaintop landscape that seems to just disappear into the pillowy sky. At an elevation of 9300 feet, you can look forward to chilly evenings on even the sweatiest summer days (you can also expect to be a cheap date when it comes to campfire brewskies—stay hydrated up there)! With only four sites and a four month season, you’ll wanna arrive at this gorgeous, no-reservations spot early. Shell, the closest town with a population of only 50, is named for the abundance of fossil shells in the area—you never know what you might find!
