This sheepherders wagon was constructed in the late 1800's. It was pulled by two horses or mules with the sheep herder setting inside the wagon with the reins through the split entry door.  A lot of the ideas of the modern RV were first developed and tried in this home away from home.  One person and two dogs, two horses was all that was needed to care for a 1,000 to 1,500 head of sheep.  Life was simpler then.

Although it could have been a nice experience in the Sheepherder’s Wagon, we unfortunately found a few moths, spiders, etc. It wasn’t anything so bad but when we found live wasps living in the corner of the wall we were extremely uncomfortable staying there. Rod tried to put us in a teepee but all there was were cots and we hadn’t packed any pillows or blankets since we had planned to stay in the wagon. Considering it was a vacation anniversary for my partner and I we were super disappointed and went to stay in a motel nearby. I wasn’t even granted any kind of a refund for not being able to sleep in the place we had spent the money to sleep in.

The highlight of a whirlwind Montana/Wyoming trip. The wagon is interesting, but nothing special as lodging goes but the experience and communal aspects are fantastic. The hosts Rod and site manager Mickey were great people to meet and chat with. We thoroughly enjoyed playing fetch with their dog, chatting with other visitors, gazing at the star-filled sky, and filling our bellies with local sausage and pancakes the size of our heads.

The wagon itself is a little snug for two, especially if one person happens to be tall. It’s a wee bit musty but I feel like that’s fair for a wagon? It stayed warm enough during the cool nights and provided welcome relief from the hot sun. If you’re not surefooted, getting in and out could be a little precarious, but I’d stay again for sure!

I appreciated the quick response to our last minute inquiry, hospitality, and covid awareness. Thanks for a wonderful stay!

Beautiful surroundings, but my bedding was dirty, as well as the cabinets and rugs. How can they clean the sleeping bags between guests? I placed my own bag on top of what was in there. Didn't feel covid clean.

Rod is a fantastic host. Very friendly and knowledgeable. The sheepherder's wagon is cozy and cute. The mattress is comfortable but is exactly 6 ft long, so not for extra tall folks.

I would recommend practicing with the door latch a few times while it's still light out :-) Works fine, it's just a little different.

Good: Amenities were great, the location is breathtaking, and overall the site was very nice and comfortable.

Bad: Sheepherder’s wagon had so many moths and bugs I ended up pitching my tent in the middle of the night.

I wasn't entirely sure what to expect when I initially booked but I loved it! Great spot, great hospitality, would absolutely recommend! There were hammocks and communal fire pits and the breakfast was so nice.

This is a great experience for folks looking for a rustic, simple, nature-focused stay. The breakfast was tasty with pancakes, locally made sausage, and coffee. I highly recommend the Big Quiet if you want something different than the typical hotel experience.

I'll lean into the word rustic since nature is definitely doing its thing. The wagon had a notable mouse dropping smell that was hard to pinpoint. When I mentioned it to Rod he was very quick to clean the space but unfortunately the smell persisted. We only stayed two nights so I'm sure with more time they'll find the source.

The firepit is awesome and it was nice to have hot showers. Note that one morning the hot water ran out since I think many people went ahead of us. You should have an attitude of rolling with the punches :)

If you're a dog person then you'll likely enjoy the camp's dogs who are fun and love to play fetch, ball, etc. I look forward to coming back sometime!

Just phenomenal! Read the site carefully. This is “Frontier camping”. It’s not manicured like a KOA campground. It’s small. It’s quiet. It’s perfect.
