It was exactly what we were looking for. My wife and two daughters had not experienced primitive camping like this before and it was the perfect spot to try it out. So peaceful and the views of the lake were serene. We will be back. There is a steep hike down to the waters edge where the canoe is setup that might be an obstacle for some, but Tara was upfront and did a great job with directions. She was an awesome host.

We spent 4 days and 3 nights here in mid-September 2020 to celebrate our wedding anniversary.

Tara was an AMAZING hostess! From the time I first booked she was extremely timely replying to my many questions. She was extremely helpful while we camped as well, always had a smile, and is just an all around beautiful soul! We loved getting to know her and hearing about the history of the place. We felt completely safe the entire time.

Her land has several unique campsites, all providing nice privacy. She continues to add more, so there will likely always be something new! There are 3 lakes right around her. She has kayaks, row boats, canoes, paddle boats, and life jackets available for all guests' use.

There are tons of trails to hike - and they are all gorgeous! She maintains them very well, too. We found them very easy to navigate. Even the casual walker wouldn't have any problem.

We stayed on "The Island" campsite that was bordered on one side with open water and with marsh land on the other side. She has built a walkway bridge from the land to the island. It was shady with pines and provided beautiful views of the lake and forests. Something to know about this site in particular: There are two ways to get yourself and your gear to the island: 1) Via boat from Boatland, which requires a steep, uneven, although not long, trek from the road to the waterfront. 2) across the metal/wood bridge. Due to bad knees, we decided to try our luck going across the bridge. We had a wagon, and were able to use her wagon to load stuff and wheel it across the bridge. It might look questionable that it will work - but we had absolutely no problems! Beware if its wet from rain, though. That might make it slick.

She provides some firewood and has more to purchase. It was aged and cut well. There is TONS of fallen wood to gather for tinder and kindling without leaving your site!! We were excited that we found lots of birch bark, which is excellent for fires. (Do yourself a favor and know how to start/maintain a fire from natural materials-there are lots of YouTube videos).

All sites had fire rings. Most all of the sites also had commodes (be nice and put bags in them for easy cleanup when you pack it out!), rakes, trash cans, and a tall table. There is also a central location for garbage disposal near the camp entrance and an outhouse centrally located. There is no potable water, however. Be sure to bring what you need for cooking, drinking, and washing up. Also, there are no electric hook ups if that's something you need. But we love primitive camping!

The area is truly "in the country" with nearly no invasion from the outside world. We found we were able to hear some distant road noise if the wind blew just right. But mostly it was full with the sounds of nature! Town is just 10 miles away if you've forgotten anything, though.

We had to drive 9+ hours to get here, and definitely plan on doing it again on a regular basis. We camp a lot and this is the favorite place we've gone to yet by far!

The Island was an amazingly gorgeous and picturesque spot- especially at this time of year! The fall leaves were beautiful, and the island itself was super charming. I would highly recommend this spot to others and may even come back myself in the future!
