Dispersed camping at wooded lands
Upon entering the property, we were greeted by our host, Noman. He was very gracious and told us to camp wherever we liked. He also had firewood split and ready for the hauling! After some searching, we found a nice, flat spot on a small ridge surrounded with birch and pine trees. After unpacking, we realized that we forgot something to cook over the fire with! Noman was kind enough to lend us his tripod grill in order to avoid a trip to the store. Since we were his first campers, we had to build our own fire pit, but Noman was prepared. He had some leftover stones from a project and told us they were fair game. After some backpack stuffing and hauling, we were able to make a nice, solid ring that was more than capable of having large fires. The rest of the weekend was filled with some light hiking, relaxation, great food, and great conversation. Overall, we were very happy with our stay and we will be returning sometime in the future. We would highly recommend this location and couldn't have been happier with the hospitality displayed by Noman as our host!
Get off the grid and enjoy nature.
My son and I took a last minute trip. Noman was fast to respond and let me know all the details. He was out of town so we didn't have access to the restroom in his place (he let me know this when I messaged him before booking) but we are used to primitive camping so it wasn't a problem. He was very communicative and accomodating throughout the entire process.
We found a spot on the far side of the pond and had access to all the firewood we needed. We made a few trips from the car back to the campsite, so keep in mind if you are needing to haul a lot. A garden wagon could be helpful or more kids to carry the bags :).
I have Verizon and lost cell service pretty close to the property as we were driving in and was only able to get an occasional text out. The disconnectedness was a welcomed addition.
Overall, this place feels very secluded and you can't hear anything but the sounds of nature. I'd definitely come back again...I just wish it was a little closer to home in Chicago. :)
