Its very secluded with two distant neighbors barely visible. A mile away, Long Lake State Park offers swimming, biking and fishing. A mile in the opposite direction is Butler Lake, which offers boating, fishing and hiking. In fact, the Ice Age Trail runs next to Butler Lake. Our location is very convenient for backpackers hiking on the Ice Age trail. There is a bike trail that starts at Long Lake State Park that brings you to Mauthe Lake State Park, which has a great beach for swimming, hiking and boating. The Zilmer hiking trail, Greenbush hiking/mountain biking/skiing trials, Parnell tower with hiking and the historic Wade house historic site and museum are all under ten miles away. The closest little town is Dundee and can be reached by car in five minutes or you can bike to it on bike trails, in 15 minutes. The Hamburger House, famous for their large ice cream cones and cheap prices is found in Dundee along with Camp Dundee bar and taco stand. A few minutes further is Tiki Beach Resort with food, drinks and beach with aquatic floating toys for the kids. The resort is located on Kettle Moraine Lake. Armstrong Apples Orchard and Winery is a 9 minute drive through scenic Kettle Moraine. Mark has created an ideal setting to comfortably glamp without being around other campers, in a great location.
The property is very easy to find with many nearby hiking/biking trails and lakes to explore. The small, windowed cabin, feels quite secluded in the lovely wide open meadow. It's very quiet. Rarely will a car pass by. Cooking essentials are provided, including: fridge, electric hot water heater, pop-up toaster & electric burner (you may need to read the instructions and find the proper pan), There isn't much to explore on the property itself, but the big fire pit is an ideal spot for star gazing. There's plenty of room to pitch a tent by the fire as well. There's room for lawn games and a nice tree house in the distance for children to safely roam. Regrettably, I didn't bring my sleeping pad. It would've provided more comfort and warmth on the bunk bed cots. The electric heater works nicely and there is a small vacuum to keep floor tidy. The compost toilet is clean and simple to use--a nicer experience than your standard outhouse. The rain water collection system and dish washing station are practical, helpful and a huge perk on a property without other water source. Drinkable five gallon water jugs are also provided. Do to Covid, we weren't able to explore any nearby restaurants or bars. Rats! Next time. McDundee Hollow is an ideal hip camp with the just enough comforts without going overboard. It's called camping, after all.
p.s. Mt Bikers: Greenbush is a fun, challenging and unrelentingly bumpy ride. It takes some skill & stamina. New Fane is a more gentle, yet exhilarating experience, if you're slightly less adept on single track. Both are close by, beautiful, well maintained biker only trails.

Staying at Mark's property was a real joy! Upon arriving we were greeted by Mark, who had made a special trip up just to make sure we had enough firewood. After a short tour of the cabin and outhouse, he went out of his way to make a long list of all his favorite recommendations, many of which we tried out! The Hamburger Haus in the nearby town of Dundee was awesome, the mountain bike trails in northern Greenbush, and the beach at Long Lake, but most of all, we enjoyed sitting around the fire and admiring the incredibly bright stars that filled the sky.

The property was so full of life, with beehives, wildflowers, a veggie garden, fruit trees, and monarchs flying everywhere. The cabin is small but has everything you need, including 4 surprisingly large and comfortable cots, a freezing cold fridge, a water kettle, gas grill, lantern, some chairs and a picnic table, and a treehouse with 2 hammocks!

We loved our stay and will definitely be back!

Thank you very much for the great review. I'm glad you had a great time. We hope to see you again soon. I'm in the process of putting electrical in and then insulating the walls so it should be available year round depending on how adventurous you are!

My two children and I stayed two nights in the little camping cabin on the hosts 8 acres of prairie. We had a wonderful time together having a campfire, hiking the nearby trails and spending time at the state park beaches nearby. It is so close to so many neat things to do. We loved the quietness of the place, the beautiful wildflowers, butterflies and birds. The kids thought the treehouse was magical and loved wandering over there with their coloring books. There were even fireflies, something we rarely see living in town. The little cabin is small, but supplied everything we needed and the cots were comfy. We enjoyed using the rain barrels for washing up as it made things so easy. There were flashlights and a lantern and other small items in the cabin that made camping so easy. Mark was a great host, called me ahead of time to inform me of details and recommendations of neat things to do nearby. We plan to return again when my husband can join us to explore more of the area.

The cabin’s located in a lovely spot in the Kettle Moraine region. Very private situation, with lots to do in the surrounding area. Great for kids: ours loved the treehouse especially. Comfortable beds and thoughtfully stocked cabin. Mark gave us ample information and clear directions. Highly recommended.

The cabin was great. Basic, but had everything one needs to camp. 4 cots (two, two high bunk bed cots but plenty stable & comfortable...bring your own sleeping bag/sheets & pillow). A fan, a heater, lights & electricity. Basic utensils, mini fridge w/ freezer, table, chairs, and a small counter top. Gas grill outside. 5 gallon fresh water jug inside the cabin & multiple rain barrels outside for washing up yourself or dishes. Compostable toilet outhouse was clean, easy to use and just a few steps from the cabin. Parking close to the cabin. The prairie was beautiful with a nice fire ring with grill cooking grate. Firewood on a site for sale by owner. Our daughter was obsessed with the huge treehouse at the back of the prairie. It’s big enough for adults and has a few hammocks in it for lounging around. You have the whole prairie and cabin to yourself. Lots of privacy. Mark the owner doesn’t live on-site but was a great communicator and made instructions for our stay super easy. There are at least three state parks very close by, two are about a mile away (Butler & Long Lake). Butler has lake swimming with a beach, playgrounds, and showers that you can use. Plenty of hiking and nice roads within the parks to ride your bike. Mauthe Lake Recreation area also had a great beach and bald eagles. Pro tip...pay the day usage fee at the state park or buy a yearly pass online (for the yr pass you get a number that’s good for 30 days you can write on a piece of paper & put in your window). We paid but plenty of people didn’t and when we came back from a bike ride nearly all the cars had tickets on them. The prairie cabin was a great weekend adventure for our whole family and we highly recommend.

This was our first Hipcamp experience and it won't be our last! Mark was a great host and the cabin and land was great for our needs. Our three teens enjoyed the place, too! Thanks for the things that made camping there easy- the grill, nice cots, the indoor heater, chairs for by the fire and utensils/kitchenware. I recommend this cabin!!
