The cabin sits on 8 acres of prairie with a small orchard of peach, apple and pear trees. The surrounding area is called Kettle Moraine State Forest with beautiful views and glacial remnants. The property also has bee hives, vegetable garden, fruit garden and tree house with two hammocks besides the main structure . There is state forest land across the gravel road. Its very secluded with two distant neighbors barely visible. A mile away, Long Lake State Park offers swimming, biking and fishing. A mile in the opposite direction is Butler Lake, which offers boating, fishing and hiking. In fact, the Ice Age Trail runs next to Butler Lake. Our location is very convenient for backpackers hiking on the Ice Age trail. There is a bike trail that starts at Long Lake State Park that brings you to Mauthe Lake State Park, which has a great beach for swimming, hiking and boating. The Zilmer hiking trail, Greenbush hiking/mountain biking/skiing trials, Parnell tower with hiking and the historic Wade house historic site and museum are all under ten miles away. The closest little town is Dundee and can be reached by car in five minutes or you can bike to it on bike trails, in 15 minutes. The Hamburger House, famous for their large ice cream cones and cheap prices is found in Dundee along with Camp Dundee bar and taco stand. A few minutes further is Tiki Beach Resort with food, drinks and beach with aquatic floating toys for the kids. The resort is located on Kettle Moraine Lake. Armstrong Apples Orchard and Winery is a 9 minute drive through scenic Kettle Moraine. Another great spot is SoLu Estate Winery is a 6 minute drive which also offers live outdoor music and sportsman club.

2nd time at Mark’s property and we as much fun as the first time! Mark was a great communicator again. He contacted us before our stay to give us information and to see if we had questions. Our dogs had a blast also being able to run off some steam! We had everything we needed again! Although everything is minimalistic, Mark has put thought into every item in the cabin, and nothing was overlooked!! We still saw a few honeybees, sandhill cranes, deer etc. hanging around in all the wildflowers! 3 Sweets was amazing as always for breakfast, and the wood down the road is slow burning and a great deal! All in all another fantastic weekend- can’t wait to come back!!

This was our third visit. We love how close the cabin is to the Long Lake bike path which goes into town where we get huge ice creams at the Hamburger Haus. Our kid also loves the treehouse. Robert, who has a cinnamon roll delivery business, declared that spending an hour in your garden is like spending a week in paradise.

Treehouse Firewood is available down the road at an ATM inside Long Lake park.

This place is fantastic! Selfishly (and jokingly) we said "we cannot give it the review it deserves because then everyone will want to rent it and we want to come back all the time! Because it was literally the best weekend I've had: no joke. The land is beautiful. There are wildflowers in constant bloom. We went on a new moon and saw countless stars both nights of our stay. The tiny house has plenty of windows that keeps a perfect breeze blowing. There's a treehouse! The campfire site is great. We went on a bike ride and to the beach. But also just stayed on the land one day and reconnected with each other and nature. It was perfect. We will be back.

My husband and I had a great time camping here! The small cabin is well stocked, and the land felt very peaceful and secluded. We also enjoyed hiking the Butler Lake trail and went antiquing in nearby Plymouth. We want to come back again soon and bring our bikes!!

OMG! What an absolutely amazing first time using HipCamp!!! I can’t say enough about Mark and his property- we and our dogs loved it! The property itself is impressive- vast meadows buzzing with honeybees, birds and butterflies! As someone who’s trying to create a pollinator garden in the city, Mark’s set-up is top notch! We loved watching all the bees and wandering the trail on the property. As pop campers who are usually off grid, the cabin itself was luxury! Comfy cots, windows on all sides, a fan, vacuum, refrigerator, drinking water, dishes, drinking water, wash water, hot water pot, toaster, games and a composting toilet!!! Although very minimalistic, every detail was well thought out! We spent our nights around the fire amazed by all the lightning bugs and the stars- stunning to see! And finally, communication with Mark was awesome! We took several of his recommendations as he contacted us before our trip and went over his favorites and tips! We have been camping in the area several times, but he gave several recommendations we hadn’t known about. We ordered 3Sweets for an incredible breakfast and bakery goods, stopped at Long Lake, Butler Lake and of course went to Hamburger Haus! But honestly the most fun we had was relaxing in the property and watching our city dogs have the time of their life! We can’t wait to go back- thank you Mark for sharing your little slice of heaven with us!

McDundee Hollow is a basic but well designed cabin and host Mark is easy to work with. Springtime visits can feature sandhill cranes bugling at dawn and flying past the cabin, barely overhead. Warblers and hummingbirds arriving on south winds.
