Come hideaway in West Virginia, home to endless outdoor recreation and stunning scenic beauty. This primitive camp site is part of my small family goat/poultry farm and located away from the main house on an unpaved road along side a year-round stream. Relax among the deer, wild turkey, eagles and other woodland wildlife. Retreat under star-studded skies and tree canopies. Take a walk and enjoy the benefits of forest bathing. There's enough right here to soothe your soul!
But if you want to venture out, this area has much to offer. In a short 6 mile drive, you are at the Lost River State Park enjoying seasonal horse back riding, scenic mountain hikes, and a stream-fed outdoor pool - it takes your breath away! For additional swimming, fishing, and boating options, Trout Pond Recreational Area is only 19 miles away. Since you're here, be sure to visit the quaint town of Wardensville, home to small eateries, trading posts, a glassblowing studio, farmers market and more in less than 25 miles. Stay long enough to spend a day discovering Tucker County, home to great food, local brews, art galleries, and unique shopping - just an 1.5 hour scenic drive away. As you plan your visit, remember, we are just minutes from the Virginia border (Rockingham County) and, if you start your day early enough, you can even make a day trip to Washington DC - it's just a little over a 2 hours drive.
Come fall in love with West Virginia! You won't want to leave.
NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH MESSAGE: Unfortunately, a few knuckleheads made this message necessary. Me and my neighbors live back here in the woods because we love the quiet and the respectful way we coexist with each other and we love the land. When we want some excitement, we go into town. If it is peace, calm, and simplicity you seek, you've found it. But, if you're looking to let loose, wild-out, and disrespect resident and property, no judgements from us but no admittance either. You should save us all the headache and the poor reviews, and find a more suitable location for your celebration.

Shefa's site was exactly what I was looking for. A nice flat spot at the base of a mountain. I pitched my tent (with my pup) by the creek (did I mention how nice it was to sleep with the tranquil sound of the creek right outside my tent!). The sanitation facilities were a plus. As a camper, I was prepared to dig and cover, but the porta potti and solar shower were amenities I was thrilled to have (although primitive, it totally works and is super convenient!). I order half dozen eggs and even was able to enjoy her bustling farm (gratis - maybe she took pity on me being solo and all) . Shefa was very available to answer all my questions and even provided me with warm popovers on my way out! Quite a host and although the nights were cold, the welcome was warm! Shefa's place is not deep in the woods, but it is secluded and with wildlife abound. Something was stirring outside my tent (drove my pup crazy) but didn't cause any trouble...not sure what it was. I will surely be back in the warmer weather to take advantage of the lost river state park (super close) and this great site!
