Google The Stone House for driving directions SEE PHOTOS This rustic homestead was built by, and home to my paternal great great grandfather and was home to his sons and their children after. The stone house was completed in 1920 and has become a locally famous landmark. Know for being the first cut stone building in the area and some of the most beautiful property in its time. All the stone and other natural building materials for the house were harvested by hand from the property the remaining stone was used in building the historic Summersville courthouse. After the passing of my great grandfather around 1980 the property remained uninhabited until my family returned in 2021 to continue the work they began.

The Stone House Tent Sites
Great location, property needs work
never met host, but his mom was awesome! GREAT private location with great POTENTIAL, however, the property needs some serious work. The dirt road on the property is very rough and muddy, definitely don’t recommend taking a car down it. If you plan to camp in a tent, take a shovel with you as we were unable to find level ground for our tent and when it rained our tent got flooded out. The site has great potential, just needs to be invested in a little bit in order for it to be enjoyable for campers. The outhouse was peaceful and clean, the stone house is beautiful, the falls right down the road is BEAUTIFUL and the river about 15 minutes away has a view that is to die for. I fell in love with this little town, we plan on moving there!

The Stone House Tent Sites
I really enjoyed John as a host as well as his land. It was a fair price and the surrounding attractions were close and stunning. In terms of the property, it was very nice and open. John told me that he will be installing cabins, electricity, and city water, but camping in tents will still be an option. There is a spring close by, I just recommend bringing water purification tablets. Overall it was an extremely nice and peaceful property with great access to the local attractions as well as a very good price. I definitely look forward to camping here again.
