Tired of pitching a tent, or sleeping on the ground is just not your thing? We've got a beautiful solar off-grid cabin ready for you on 190 acres! Plus, a moonshine distillery is on site (Dry Run Spirits). Cabin has NO heat, NO running water. There is an outhouse out back, or guests may use the bathroom w/showers in the main cabin. There is another cabin about 100 ft from this camping cabin, so you may see others up in the cabins' area. 3 NIGHT MINIMUM ON HOLIDAY WEEKENDS.

We're about 3 1/2 hrs from DC or Richmond, VA. The beautiful drive to get here sets the tone for your visit. We are near Franklin, WV on a scenic motorcycling and bicycling route. Your hosts will meet you upon arrival so please head up to the main log cabin to check in.

A liability waiver is required due to the nature of the property. You will be given it when you arrive. We can't give a 5 star review unless all in your party sign and return it the day of arrival, or morning after (if you got here late). Return waivers at the kitchen porch of the lodge, near the "welcome" board. Games are in the cupboard under the welcome board, as well.

We have an historic 1840s German Appalachian homestead on the property to explore (the Ananias Pitsenbarger Farm), plus we have a fishing pond for the kids. Amenities such as bocci ball, corn hole, hammocks, picnic pavilion, porches at the lodge, 5+ miles of hiking trails are shared by all guests. You've got your own fire pit (firewood is free), and picnic table, fresh spring water.  Dry Run Spirits Distillery is on site, offering apple brandy and moonshine. Ask for a free tasting, and inquire if you'd like "mix-ins" - non alcoholic mixers to make cocktails with the apple brandy/moonshine. Also inquire about a charcuterie sampler, or a backpack lunch (or dinner).

NOTE there is CELL RECEPTION ONLY FOR AT&T AND SPRINT AT THE MAIN CABIN, AND NO INTERNET. You'll be given the main cabin land line after you book and you may use the phone handset on the kitchen porch of the lodge. Depending on your service (usually this is Verizon), you may be able to send and receive texts from the top of one of the mountains.

We are also an event venue. Please inquire about hosting your wedding, party, reunion, group gathering.

There is plenty to do off the property, too:

Franklin WV - 10 miles - grocery store, ATM, library, restaurants, shopping, hardware stores, Warner's drive-in theater. Franklin hosts a Spring Fling and (fall) Treasure Mountain Festival. * Monterey VA - 21 miles away - restaurants, shopping, excellent cidery (Big Fish Cider), Sugar Maple Festival each March, and other festivals and activities thru the year. Highland County is known as Virginia's "Little Switzerland." * Seneca Rocks (hiking and rock climbing) - 30 mi * Nelson Rocks (zip line canopy tour, rock climbing) - 36 mi * Seneca Caverns - 23 mi * Trout fishing (catch and release) - Thorn Creek - 5.5 mi / plus there's a kids' catch and pay pond nearby (you must keep what you catch). * Pendleton County Bicycle Tour - we are on Loop 5 "Dry Run" (also fabulous for motorcyclists) * George Washington and Jefferson National Forests are nearby for hiking * Cave entrances are nearby if you are into spelunking

Jeff and Theresa were amazing and accommodating hosts. My wife and I stopped on the way to the beach with our 2 sons (ages 4 and 7). Plenty on the property to keep us busy with hiking, fishing, and even an on-site moonshine tasting from Jeff! Exploring the old homestead was a big hit as well. Highly recommend this stay to anyone looking to unplug for the weekend and relax, while still keeping some creature comforts.

We loved this spot. Wide open fields but also close to Jeff and Teresa's home (where the food is!). They operate on a historic farm and you can tour the old farmhouse buildings. PLUS Jeff has a hobby the fruits of which patrons of all sorts can appreciate (well, those of drinking age). We will be back!

Jeff and Teresa are very nice people and kind. The cabin was very cozy and clean and my family was impressed about details and services they offered. The place is located very nice hillside area and has a very nice view. The place offers nice trails and ponds to fish and experience to old German settlement. I definitely recommend to visit. I will be back for sure.

We had an absolutely fabulous time at Jeff and Teresa's cabin! We had high expectations based on the beautiful pictures and our experience far exceeded the expectations. We found beautiful nature, peace and quiet, amazing hospitality, great hikes and bathing in the river, and an authentic West Virginian atmosphere. In short- we loved it and will be back!

Loafer's glory is a beautiful cabin amongst the great wilderness. I was not expecting a luxurious experience, but what I got was much more than what I expected with immaculately well.magaed cabin, very well thought out design (particularly during the covid times) and a great and welcoming host who attended to all our needs. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone who might want to visit it. Also, since the property is in the wilderness and away from light pollution, you can also go star gazing in an open field within the property.

Main cabin where the hosts live.

We had a great weekend at Loafers Glory and look forward to returning in the spring. Jeff and Teresa upgraded us from the rustic cabin to the barn cabin because of a cold front that was coming in. We were extremely grateful for that as it did get very cold. Despite the cold, we were still able to take a few hikes on the property that had incredible views. It was great to be able to hike on the property so that we didn't have to drive anywhere all weekend. The directions provided by the hosts were great. We lost cell reception as we were making our way up the mountain and we were glad to be disconnected all weekend. We are looking forward to returning in the spring with friends!

We are so pleased you had a great visit, in spite of the cold. It was our pleasure to host you. We look forward to seeing you in spring!

OMG! If you want peace and quiet and a great host this is it! Dark sky, wonderful views, and great sunsets are in store for you here. We only stayed 2 nights in the rustic cabin but are already planning a return visit for longer next year in the barn. Jeff and Teresa are absolutely wonderful hosts. You will not be disappointed. And if you care about history the farm is an amazing place to explore and Jeff and Teresa use the proceeds to restore and preserve the old Pitsenbarger farm. Wow!! Can't wait until 2019!

This place was unbelievably beautiful!!! It was everything we wanted and more!! We have already made plans and will soon make reservations to come back next year for longer!!! They are so very nice and the directions could not possibly have been more accurate. It was such a pleasure to meet them and I look forward to spending more time with them next year at this time!!! It’s an incredible place!!! And that doesn’t even explain the half of it!! The history they are working to preserve is another whole story!!! Can’t wait to go see more!!!
