This is a former summer camp from the 1950s. Some of the smaller cabins have seen better days but the larger ones seem to be in fibe shape. There is obviously a push to make improvements as there were busy crews working while we were there. They are very welcoming to dogs. In fact, one of the projects we watched them working on was a fenced-in dog park! There is a refreshing spring fed lake but it is unguarded. There ia a dining hall with a small cafe and directly behind it are a yurt and another shaded camp site. All other hillside campsites are unshaded but provide a great view of the surrounding hills and sunsets. We stayed in a creekside campsite. The campsites are a little close together but it was uncrowded when we were there. Sites 26 and 27 make a great shaded private tented enclave. I suggest booking them together. There is a no loud music rule which I endorse. If you have problems with noisy neighbors just contact the on site staff and they will correct the issue. Buffalo Gap is a great place and the staff is busy making it better.

It is a unique experience. The site used to be a summer camp. It hasn't been a summer camp for decades but it feels like it was a summer camp recently. Lots of free activities once you have paid for your tent site/cabin. Canoe/kayak is first come first served but free.

Our particular campsite was right beside the parking lot which was convenient but potentially disappointing for those wanting a more deep woods, Grizzly Adams experience. The restrooms and showers were surprisingly clean. Boats/kayaks were always available on the beach. Nice touches like a tree swing for the kids, volleyball court and the sauna. Staff was very friendly and helpful as were the other campers who were happy to gather around the fire with you in the evening. Fireworks display was very impressive. Look for the ice cream, kettle corn stand off the main road before you get there. Worth a stop!
