Waterfall Sanctuary is a hidden gem at the end of a dead-end road on 17 acres of land, bordered on two sides by the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. Located in the heart of the Columbia River Gorge just outside of Carson, Washington, Waterfall Sanctuary is home to a mini-farm with goats, ducks, and chickens. Deer and elk walk through the property on a fairly regular basis depending on the season, it's less than a mile walk (or a short drive) to the Wind River and a perfect swimming hole with a rope swing, and another short distance further down the road is the Pacific Crest Trail.

A 20-minute drive and you're at the Columbia River, the world destination for kiteboarding and windsurfing. Water equipment can be rented from nearby businesses or you can book a whitewater rafting trip on the White Salmon River. An hour from the property to the West is Portland, Oregon if you are in the mood for some city life, and about 40 minutes to the east is Hood River, Oregon, a gorgeous old town with tons of charm, shopping, breweries, and great restaurants. Drive the Fruit Loop or do a winery tour. The closest town, Stevenson, Washington is also home to adorable shops, great local restaurants, and access to the Columbia River as well.

Also in close proximity are multitudes of amazing waterfalls, Panther Creek Falls and Falls Creek Falls being the two closest. National Forest roads are close by and well maintained. No matter the season there is something to do a short distance from the property.

PLEASE NOTE: It can get chilly at night. Although we provide an extra blanket, if you are more sensitive to the cold please bring extras or a sleeping bag with you- BUT ALSO...

YAY!! We now have heaters for rent for each tent, so if you don't want to rough it, we have you covered! Make sure to select it before you check out. :)

ALSO: Since we are in the stunning Pacific Northwest and one of the reasons it's so beautiful is the rainfall we get, don't be surprised if it rains during your stay. The tents are waterproof and the cooking area is covered. Many trails around us are located under the tree canopy, so hiking is a great thing to do when it's raining! Plus you get the low-lying clouds and fog that make the PNW so mystical and magical in the shoulder months. Just pack for the weather and take advantage of the magic that the PNW displays in the shoulder months. :)

We have 4 tents available to rent out,  and 2 porta-potties.

About each site, to help you choose the one that fits your needs the best:

Site #1- This site is home to the awesome 20-foot diameter Stargazer tent, where you can see the night sky from your bed. :) It is also the closest to the communal area with seating, a propane fire table, a picnic table, and the communal cooking area. This tent can fit up to 5 SNUGGLY. If you are wanting more privacy you can choose sites #3 or #4.

Site #2- This site is the smallest tent at 16 feet in diameter and fits 4 people MAXIMUM. This tent is the closest one to site #1 so it's a great one to book along with #1 if you need more than one tent for you and your group. This tent has a picnic table next to it.

Site #3- This 20-foot diameter tent is located in a small clearing with a picnic table next to it and fits up to 5 people SNUGGLY.

Site #4- This is the most private tent and it's tucked next to a large tree. It's 20 feet in diameter and can fit up to 5 people as well, SNUGGLY. It does not have a dedicated picnic table (this is also the closest tent to #3, so if you want to book more than one tent this is also a good pairing).

Waterfall Sanctuary was beautiful and Tula was a wonderful host. I definitely recommend this spot! I only wish we stayed longer so we could explore more of the trails.

Beautiful tent! The accommodations were as charming as in the photos--I love the colorful quilts and the view of the sky in the Stargazer tent. Aside from the tent and beds, it's a pretty basic site. I thought there would be a shared outdoor kitchen, but maybe I didn't read the description closely enough.

After reading so many positive reviews I had extremely high expectations for the Waterfall Sanctuary Retreat. Unfortunately, it fell pretty short. The tent was nice and my friends and I were comfortable in the cots provided. However, the “communal kitchen” is a covered table and there was very low water in the bathroom sink containers so they didn’t really work. I had booked a therapy appointment with the goats but there was no communication about scheduling and I ended up asking for a refund when the host told me they would be away on the one full day I was there. My friends and I searched for trails on the property and only found one short trail leading up the hill to an unfinished tiny house surrounded by beer cans and litter. I also purchased a solar lamp/speaker/charger but it died in 5 minutes after being outside all day and the portal to plug a phone in was specifically mini usb so it didn’t work with my phone. There was a lot of background noise during the day with the neighbors riding ATVs and what sounded like a logging operation nearby. I think the title is misleading, it’s essentially tent camping in a backyard. The price was high for what we got.

my friend and i were able to book tent #1, the bell tent, and it was such a magical experience. the clear roof let you see the stars at night and the sky in the daylight. the tent itself is very clean, comfortable, and definitely felt luxurious. there's plenty of room in the tent for two people, and the mattress of the large bed was so comfortable!

because of the burn ban, we weren't able to have an open fire. but tyla provided us with a propane heater which was perfect and kept us warm all night. there's a shower/compost toilet building, port-a-potties, and a communal fire pit. the goats and free-roaming chickens were also super cute! would love to come back again.

Tyla was very welcoming and accommodating. I did have cell service so I was able to text her with any questions. We had the whole place to ourselves which was nice. There was a fire ban so we couldn’t make a wood fire, but there was a propane fire available to use in the community area. Definitely bring everything you need to cook and eat with if you plan to use the kitchen area. There were no lights at the kitchen area either so bring a lantern or light of some kind if you plan to cook past dark. The inside of the tents were set up nicely and were cozy and you can rent a propane heater for extra money which I recommend September or later.
