The cabin at Rainbow Springs is an old hunting shack I fixed up some years back to be my private retreat from the world. The cabin at Rainbow Springs is an old hunting shack I fixed up some years back to be my private retreat from the world. It sits on 7 acres, but adjoins both BLM and the Sacred Earth land trust, so there is plenty of room to wander. The cabin is 10'x16' (the same size as Thoreau's!) and has a full sized bed, a closet, a table and chairs, and a kitchen workspace which includes a sink and 2-burner stove. This is a great place to come for contemplation, star-gazing, and being totally free. Amenities are 30 minutes away in Goldendale, WA, and the Columbia river is another 15 minutes past that. Wineries (Maryhill!), fruit stands, the Goldendale observatory, and the winding Bickleton highway are all great attractions but it's perfectly fine to just come and be quiet. The great feature of the land is the short, 5-minute walk to the lip of Rock Creek Canyon. Yes, you will have your own personal canyon in your backyard and you will not see a person or a building in any direction as far as your eyes can see. I run retreats on this land and people report their experiences as 'life-changing'. Perfect getaway for an artist, writer, musician: camping without the din of people everywhere, and without having to hike for miles to get away from them.
Please bring your own bedding and towels, and leave the cabin and grounds as you found them. Feel free to use candles, matches, and any kitchen items (there are basics like salt, pepper, oil, vinegar out there). Bring a cooler and ice. This is just fancy camping with 4 walls and a roof- treat it like a camping trip :)
*Update as of 4/19/18: I have had an issue with yellow jackets early this Spring and I have taken steps to minimize their presence. As of my visit the last few days, they were mostly gone and I don't think they'll pose any issue for the average camper. However, if you are allergic, this is probably not a good choice for you. The entire region has a LOT of yellow jackets, so they are hard to avoid as a rule here. I will continue to moniter the presence of these rascals and take measures as needed.

Used this cabin for the first night of a road trip. It was perfect. Not too far from Seattle, cozy, simple, and peaceful. You can't go wrong!
Cabin was adorable, private, and totally serene. We slept so well in the cozy nook bed with a cool breeze on us all night. Definitely walk down to the canyon, it was beautiful and so vast. Lots of cooking utensils and pillows! Leslie's directions were easy to follow. A note that I did have service at the cabin (Verizon) and we only saw one wasp!
We had a sweet stay at Dream Cabin! It was private, quiet and beautiful. The tiny cabin was thought fully stocked with items that would make the stay pleasant from pots and pans, headlamps and candles to extra blankets. The bed was incredibly comfy as well. We really felt rested here.
Amazing, amazing, amazing... to the point where I was tempted to leave a boring review so this little magic gem could always stay available for us. The host (Leslie) has clearly put thought into every little detail of this tiny cabin. Such a charming place. The rustic feel, but completely thorough supply set up makes this rental a true pleasure to visit. The short walk to the secret massive canyon was breathtaking. We saw deer, a Golden Eagle, and not a single other person or building for our entire stay. We already booked our next trip here and plan to book many more. A new get-a-way to recharge and relax.

So glad you loved it Lindsay! And glad to hear you can come back :)
Leslie's cabin is a wonderful place! The solitude, quietness, and scenery were what we were looking for! The only sounds were singing birds and wind through the trees. The canyon view was breathtaking. We met a few other of natures friends which was also beautiful! The cabin as very home place to relax and the star gazing was breathless. A wonderful and quiet getaway!
Great place to spend the weekend - cabin is adorable inside & the property is beautiful. Great star gazing location.

This cabin has all you need for cooking and sleeping (bring your own linens/sleeping bags) but I would only recommend go during summer months to avoid the wasps that make this home during the colder months.
Make sure you take the quick canyon walk just past the cabin as it was a beautiful unknown to most of the world likely.

Hi Casey, Just wanted to update here that I was out yesterday and today, fogged the cabin, and that seemed to do the trick. There are still a few yellow jackets and other bugs around, so probably not the right listing for anyone who is allergic. Thanks for the great photos!
Leslie's cabin was just like her description... a dream! The solitude was extremely serene. It was the perfect birthday getaway for a quiet weekend away from the busy week. Our dogs loved the property and hiking towards the canyon was absolutely breathtaking. Leslie was extremely responsive and made everything very convenient for us. We cannot wait to come back to the cabin! Hope you enjoy your stay here as much as we did!
