Very well maintained property. Hosts are welcoming. Great fire pit and picnic table. The walk to the river below the property is a gem (about 500 vertical feet over 3/4 of a mile). Check out the gallery. Property is better option if you have an RV. Adjacent lots (4-5) are about 75 feet away but we lucked out and got the area to ourself.
Our happy place
This past weekend was our second time camping at the Arboretum (we camped there the same time last year). The Arboretum, hands down, is one our favorite Hipcamp spots.
Barb and Terry are incredibly gracious, friendly, talented (more on that in a bit) and cool!! Their property is absolutely beautiful, well cared for (the christmas tree farm is beautiful along with their gardens) and peaceful. Each site is well maintained, clean and private.
Barb has been painting since she was 19 yrs old and has a studio on the property with all her artwork Do not miss it if you can help it. Her watercolors, acrylics and newly discovered "flower pounding" artwork is stunning and really beautiful. We left this year with a few prints of hers. Terry and Barb both fly drones (there is a drone course on the property for guests too). A lovely hike down the hill on their property brings you to the river and the water is perfect for dipping your toes or jumping all the way in. Safe and refreshing and beautiful down there. It's a perfect place to star gaze at night and it is incredibly quiet and peaceful at night (the occasional owl hoot which in my opinion, is so lovely to hear no matter what time). Their property is also off of a scenic route and there is a lake (I forget the name) a short drive away that has a dock (next year we plan to bring our paddle board and blow up canoes for a side trip).
I highly recommend staying at the Aroboretum on Barb and Terry's property. It is a wonderful Hipcamp experience and my family (two boys, my husband and I) plan to come back at least once (hopefully twice) next year for as long as they will have us. It's a Happy Place for us. Thank you so much Barb and Terry. X
Peaceful, great for rv's
Easy to access in our 24' RV, peaceful, pretty trees, friendly hosts. Hike down to the river is steep, but totally worth it! Thanks for the freshly picked blueberries :)
Wow! postcard perfect
Last minute change of plans due to the fires on the east side of the mountains and pleasantly surprised how perfect this site was. Hosts were super fast with any queries we had and welcoming when we arrived. Relaxing and private for our group, within easy drive to either Mt. Rainier or Mt. St. Helens and if interested in boating/swimming Mayfield lake is right there. The dogs were so happy to have great walking paths and trails plus the huge grassy area at the trailer. We will surely be back!
Cool little tree farm rv camp
Really well maintained site. The red site has water tap on site. The river is about a .75 mile, 350 feet elevation drop. It is beautiful down there and a nice play to wade in the water. We had a great time at the state park nearby as well.
Barb the host was super friendly and responsive with questions. We stayed in Brown camp, which was very private and beautifully treed. Our site was large enough for three medium sized trailers.
The hike to the river was a chore, but well worth the effort. The entire property was great for walking, and the chickens and ducks were a main attraction for our kids. We will be back.
The green site was amazing - not totally private, but separated from our neighbors by a good distance. We loved the farm, wandering around in the morning mist, enjoying the shade of the trees in the heat of the day. One day we walked down to the river where we played in the water and listened to the sound of the water tumbling over rocks.
I’d highly recommend The Arboretum as a base camp for exploring the area around the SW flank of Mt. Rainier.
