On a knoll, deep in the woods, surrounded by ancient Beech Trees and Mountain Laurel, just above the creek is a secluded, magical camp site.

[please note, in Winter a "weekend" house can be seen through the woods, in summer it's hidden]

Its a short walk [10 mins] to the river, and all of the woods on the Farm are your to explore.

We have chosen to prioritize conservation of the land over ease of access. What this means for you is that you are IN nature, not in a parking lot when you camp!

However this also means that all of our sites are walk in ONLY!  For you, this means woods, not roads or parking lots. We provide folding carts that you can use to bring gear to your site about a beautiful 10 min walk from parking.

There are 65 acres of woods and field**, on the Tye River [a half mile walk through the woods or 1.5 mile walk down the road or drive/bicycle to good swim holes] close to the Blue Ridge Mountains, breweries, cideries, wineries, and a Whisky Distillery, as well as peach and apple orchards near by.

The amount of wildlife is amazing, and camping out in the wood gives you a special experience, sitting by a fire [There's a designated fire ring] listening to 3 kinds of owls hooting, coyotes singing, or Whippoorwills or Woodcocks in the Spring, or if you are lucky you'll hear a bobcat  or catch the turkeys doing their mating dance in the field.

The deer wander through, a big buck with his branching antlers or a doe and her spotty twins might walk by. There are fox, rabbits, an occasional black bear passing through and hundreds of species of song birds, and raptors.

As you close your eyes you might hear the river over the song of the cicadas.

The river is EXCELLENT for paddling and floating. There is a terrific 4 mile run with an easy put in and take out that runs by the farm. Or leave your car at the bridge 1.5 miles away and throw in tubes from the farm! [We now have 4 tubes that can be rented, or bring your own]

There are good swimming holes nearby and if you want to leave your spot in the woods, the Blue Ridge Mountains are about a 20 min drive away with the AT and MANY excellent hikes [I'm happy to share my favorites]

I am smitten with this area and am an avid hiker, cyclist and motorcyclist, and always happy to share my knowledge of local roads, trails, swimming holes and places to eat and drink.

The woods were quite and very intimate. You are secluded from other campers on the site and still 30 minutes from blue ridge and Appalachian trails which was awesome. Stephanie was a great host and gave lots of recommendations for trails and local food. Will be back to visit again.

Let me just start by saying WOW!!! Stephanie was so sweet and communicated better than any host I’ve ever had. She was readily available whenever you needed something, and made sure to let you know if she was leaving the property.

This property is BEAUTIFUL and so so so quaint. Her son, Emmett has done a great job maintaining the land. My friend and I drove up for a 2 night stay and can’t wait to book with Twin Poplar Farm again. We stayed at the lower campsite under the tree canopy. I will say, this walk with all of your equipment is not flat so if you plan on staying down there, pack kind of light. (it rained this weekend so we had some extra heavy things like a canopy tent, big cooler and a hammock stand.) We are both 26 year old athletes and struggled with it BUT Stephanie does offer free collapsible carts to help you get your things up and down the hill. The firewood that she has on site is nice and dry. And she has potable water for use if you need it. The tree canopy is so thick that we really only felt the rain when the wind blew or it was raining really hard. Also, there are plenty of trees to use for overhead tarp coverage if you need to tie one up.

Make sure to do a tick check after you leave. I found a few stragglers when I got home. Pack it in, pack it out!! Respect the land 💚💚💚 😁

Popular farm is a great opportunity to camp amongst the nature an quiet sounds of its mountains.Stephanie was a down to earth host an her son was an impressive young man..And occasionally a laid dog would hangout with us off an on..We felt at home an comfortable as three guys would, however there was decent amount of physical effort to reach our site but would go again in the future. We’d suggest if your looking for a camp experience with not much physical effort involved then choose your popular farm camp site wisely as there are several to choose from..Definitely bring all your supplies with you to keep from leaving to get more, that way you have more time hike under a canopy of red headed wood peckers..

Arrange your site to fit the group Very secluded spotIts very dark only light available at night if its over castRight at home

Hey John, Thanks for the review, also, thanks for mentioning the walk in! YES I will reiterate it's NOT a drive in, tho I hope it was an easy enough walk and that the carts helped? Glad you guys had a good time!

Stephanie is super kind and her site and location are beautiful. Despite the rainy weather, a fire was set up to welcome us with firewood to use. However, we definitely should have moved the date of our stay, as it rained as we set up, and snowed 4 inches on us while we slept, causing our tent to collapse a bit. We had to leave early. Stephanie was super understanding about everything. We're looking forward to coming back in the warmer months!

Allison, again, you guys get the award for "Most Intrepid". I do hope you guys will try again when the weather is kinder, and you can have the whole river and everything experience!

Magical forest and river

I was looking for a private campsite to have a solo retreat for the weekend, and Stephanie's land was absolutely perfect! The site it secluded, in the midst of the beautiful forest where the leaves were dropping like confetti in the fall, and just about a 10-minute hike down to the river. There's a huge rock jutting out to the river where I hung out, and it's where the stream meets the river. I saw all kinds of animals in the forest, and many different types of mushrooms! It truly feels like you have an entire forest all to yourself - so magical.
Stephanie was the warmest host, and super communicative - it felt like I was in the hands of family. She made sure I was well taken care of, and her sweet son Emmet helped me bring my things from the car to the site (a few minutes' walk).
There's a compost toilet at the base of the trail at the same place where you can park your car, but you don't really need it.
I'm excited to go back to Stephanie's place with my family in the near future and enjoy another season there!

Serene campsite inside the forest

We love the place and it even exceeded our expectation. The campsite is in the middle of the forest and we had the place all to ourselves. It is silent and serene. The Tye River is just a short walk ahead from the campsite too. The "pooper" is a top-notch toilet that we have seen so far in terms of primitive camping, it even has its own nice view too. It was advised that one should have 4wd vehicle and we highly recommend that you should use one for going to the campsite. We tested it and we failed but the host, Stephanie, was ready and able to get us out of the mess! We were very relieved because of all her help. Also, she gave all the info needed not only about her place but of the neighborhood around as well. She was very accommodating to all our questions. We couldn't ask for more from a host. A plus factor too - we met her neighbors and they too were so hospitable. Definitely, we are going back there in the future again!

We loved having you! The swing got a good work out! .. and remember, there's no story without an adventure! "Frodo stayed home and planted a garden and smoked his pipe.." no one would read it! And Gary is offering a bocce rematch... Next time all bring your bikes and I'll send you to the Rail to Trail path along the River! Or come when it's warm and go swimming. Hope to see you again soon!
